Carabao Cup Final pre-match thread

Bernardo has only recently started to add some creativity to a handful of games since the new year, but my point remains that every time the ball comes to him, he slows play down by taking two to three touches and then passes back or across midfield, basically no threat comes from his side of the pitch.

Sorry to disagree with you pal, but that's just my honest opinion. Bernardo is wasted on the wings, he simply offers no threat or penetration. To me he is a silky central midfielder, just not a winger.

We haven’t got 2 pacy wingers at the minute though. Sane was playing to get some fitness last night but their full back kept up with him fairly easily and Belerin is much quicker than Wigan’s full back.

I’m pretty sure Sane will be one of the fastest players on the park on Sunday mate don’t worry

I'm with you on this one, my biggest frustration with Silva being out is that Bernardo has not been given a starting berth alongside KDB. The more I see of him the more he shows he ability to retain possession and has an excellent eye for a pass. I am hoping we will see him in the middle once the league is tied up.

I agree entirely, some posters have commented that Merlin appears a little rusty, so I would have no problem if Pep decided to gamble a little and play Bernardo alongside KdB for the first half this Sunday and then introduce Merlin later on.

I'd rather Pep gamble with Bernardo instead of Gundoghan, who to me is inconsistent following his return from injury.

Personally I feel very confident we will win. As much as it was a perfect storm of bad luck, refereeing and decision making that thwarted us at Wigan, I feel it won't happen again. Really hope you're right MaineRoadBlue, I polled as us losing this game, considering how we were cheated by the ref in the semi-final last year and now against Wigan. It seems some higher ups are determined to frustrate Pep no matter what it takes, after all he is humiliating their dinosaur approach to football and showing up the British football establishment for the rank amateurs they truly are.

Bernardo has played well & I can see Sane missing out with Sterling starting on the left. Think we would all want Ederson in goals but can't see Pep dropping Bravo in the Final.

No doubt one footed over rated Wilshere will play like Messi and cause us no end of trouble.
Surely we have to sort out our defensive frailty. Eddy needs to start as I believe he oozes calmness & promotes confidence to those in front of him. His range of passing and distribution are far better than Bravo too.
Zinch at LB. Only because of the comical display Danilo gave. The rest should pick itself. Kev & Merlin are a proven pairing.

That's a very dangerous looking team in terms of pace in the transitions.

They save their best performances for Wembley and really shouldn't have stood a chance last season against us and Chelsea.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Welbeck start to try and stretch us in behind.
