Pep clearly prefers to have two experienced internationals per position wherever possible. No.2 keeper is probably one of the worst jobs in football so to keep an international happy as no.2 Pep does a deal to play him in the domestic Cups. There's nothing sentimental about it, it's a professional agreement - he wants an experienced backup in case the worst happens to Eddie.
