Not sure that's completely fair. Last 18 games he's been out injured for 4 games, started 5 and been on the bench/left out of the squad the rest (9). I agree he's going tho, that's the business model for Sours. When a player comes into his prime and wants paying accordingly, they sell. Walker most recent to go. rose and Alderweireld will be the next in line. Kane and Alli in a few years!

From s fans perspective in regards to winning anything they will always come up short bar a one off season like Leicester.

You wonder whether building that stadium was the right time for this Spurs team because I think Potchettino would have preferred the bulk of that money going into this current team in regards to wages and new top class acquisitions.

Very good point that, a penny for Pochs thoughts indeed. I agree he would want the cash, no chance he will be totally fine having to make do such as it is when their owner is a billionaire. It makes me value the structure we have now got a lot more than i already do, good wages but mega on bonuses for winning stuff. We also get to choose the finest players in the world, something Spurs just can't get close to as it stands.

Very surprised Kane's advisors took that deal on the chin, he could treble those wages and be playing for a club that actually wins something..
That said I hope they win the FA Cup but that's just for selfish reasons, if they were not playing the rags in the semi I wouldn't give a toss :-)

Also bonuses, i would be flat out stumped if he did not have some sound clauses in for personal performance numbers. His advisers will know they are not likely to win the big stuff so it must go of performances.

I think he will have signed as we heard Utd's accountants are going full steam ahead just to keep up with Jose's spending. I would assume Utd are not interested at all now, at least this summer. That leaves Real who have seen Ronaldo start to bang them in at a rate recently as he adapts to a new style of play (a bit more poaching and less running on the wing). If he can take up the positions Kane usually does they simply won't need him. I knock Ronaldo for being a preening sod but he does look after himself. He can do 2 years as an out and out striker physically no problem at his age. It could be, amazingly, that his options were very limited.

Well outside of Utd and Real where could he realistically go? PSG? nah, no prestige in the league and it is possibly a hectic circus internally there. Italy? doubt it appeals and wages would not be huge. So if Utd and Real are now happy with their striker options what options does it really leave him with? What is this nonsense word play about not wanting him, they don't need him. If their striking options are solid then as good as he is there would be no point buying him for the galactic fee he would go for.

I believe the FA would like to keep the face of English football here so much if word got to them Levy had given him a brown paper envelope once a month they would top it up. The idea Levy would not explore all avenues of paying Kane a wage to keep him happy whilst being able to save a few quid on tax would be sensible if he is such a tight bugger with cash. Clubs do borderline illegal deals to sponsor a player if they sign for x club and stuff like that all the time. Exactly the sort of wheeler dealer stuff Levy is paid to do probably.

I think you are being a bit insincere with your reply as i am rather sure you didn't actually get "Poch is unhappy" from "not totally fine". People deal with situations everyday in life that are not ideal but to say it then makes them unhappy i suggest is misrepresenting the reality :-)

so Levy paid himself £115k per week, yet they haggle over Alderweireld et al.

To be fair, Levy is doing two jobs - Chairman and Chief Executive - unlike most other PL chairmen. He also owns some 25% of THFC but takes no dividend payments. To be brutally honest, as much as Toby has been brilliant for Spurs, Levy is far more important. Worth every penny he's paid, IMO.

The issue i find is their methods will see them limited. The very best will not go with low wages so they are near the top but it feels like a case of "here is what you could have won". The players that develop well will see them as a stepping stone/a shop window. They will be thinking of grander things when you want them focusing just on spurs. With that comes stories that a team is circling their current star player and the destabilization that often causes.

Their owner should speculate now if ever he was going to make that jump for the very top. The wages issue especially will not help their cause in the long run imo.

Levy is no fool. He understands full well that he has to pay top whack to keep the best players. But equally, he cannot pay more than Spurs can afford. And while there is a new stadium to pay for, Spurs' wages will be tightly capped at the same proportion of turnover as they are currently. The banks who have loaned the stadium funds will likely have insisted upon it. That will still allow for a considerable increase in the years to come, however. The only question is whether or not that will be enough. It's probably worth adding that Spurs' wage structure is far more weighted to performance bonus incentives than that at most other clubs.

As to Poch, by all accounts his working relationship with Levy is excellent. They understand each other very well and greatly respect each other's qualities. And it is Poch freezing Alderweireld and Rose out - just as he did Walker - because he supports Levy's stance on wages. Personally, I would prefer that Spurs do all they can to keep such players but I'm not going to try to second guess Poch.

When did Walker leave? A couple of years ago? Now you'd hardly remember they were Spurs players. Players come, players go. It rarely makes much difference to Spurs. They slowly improve and Levy and most Spurs are happy with that despite some journalists trying to raise Spurs fans expectations and cause unhappiness.

There new stadium will be bringing them around 2nd highest revenue from tickets sales. They still will have the stadium to pay off though so that will keep them standing still.

I was thinking more of their excuse that repayments for the stadium loan are limiting their ability to spend on players and wages.

Maybe in the future when the revenue grows we might be able to compete with the £300,000 per week wages clubs but for now to be in Champions League every few years is progress.

Not long ago relegation was a possibility for Spurs.

It’s a failure because you bottled it when Leicester won it, everyone else was shocking yet you had to win at Chelsea and didn’t. It’s a failure because this is as good as your team will get unless Levy loosens the purse strings regarding wages. He won’t do Kane, Alderweild, Rose, Alli and maybe Ericsson will eventually go to where they’ll be paid what their worth.

Arsenal have plenty of money to spend what will hold back teams now is the wage increase with the premier ffp, teams need to sell before buying if your on your limit of wages.
