Riyad Mahrez

I actually think it is time we started giving time to some of our youth players actually, if we keep filling in the spots in the squad with 50-75m signings we will rapidly be running out of room to find them a place even on the bench.

The relative success of a bit part player in Zinchenko should have been the sign that, young players will not be overawed in playing in our team, or the team is that strong that it can get along just fine with a youth player playing, now Zin could recycle the ball well enough and that seen him shine in Pep's system, he certainly isn't a left back but fair play to him for being man enough to cope admirably.

Now we need to find a way to get Diaz and Foden more game time, but if we now have another player in the mix for 25% of game time, Sterling, Sane, B.Silva, just where will Foden and Diaz see the pitch ?

Also will Pep go back to his original plan before Mendy's injury and play 3 centre halves and attacking full backs, negating the need for wingers ?
I agree with you on this. If we buy Mahrez, then great. But I feel instead of spending 75 million on Mahrez, we should be looking at players from our academy. Otherwise there is no point of having such a world class academy if our original plan was to follow the Barca model.

Honestly the bollocks on here. Had Raheem or Leroy of this season replaced Mahrez of 2 years ago Leicester would not have been champions.
Raheem will never be a better player, and as of now Leroy isn't. I expect he will be better as he develops.
The reason I say this is how cool he is under pressure. It is not an attribute given to many.

In current market 75m is good value. He's a Cantona sort of signing if I can mention that twats name.

The academy is there to churn out profit. If one comes through thats good enough, fucking great. We've just saved ourselves a ton of money.

Otherwise it ain't happening.

As for Mahrez, he absolutely improves this squad, imo.

There. It really is THAT simple.

2nd post you have put 3 of our players down to get mahrez in,100 fucking points so no need to put them down, anyone we buy will enhance the team is all that needs to be said

The thing is I expressed an opinion and you came in and disparaged my post, that is the difference, I am always willing to talk/debate an opinion but it gets the hackles up when people wade in with arsey comments.

So tbh I think I will leave it now.

My " arsey comment" was in response to your questions 1) How would he improve our first team ? and 2 ) Is he better than Sterling or Sane ?

Well in answer to question 1 , I don't think Pep is in the habit of buying players he doesn't think will improve our team as there is no evidence to support that assertion , and in reply to question 2 , who said he has to be better than Sterling or Sane ?

Is it possible that Pep believes that signing Mahrez would give him a different alternative to either or both of Sterling and Sane as well as providing a different alternative to using Bernardo as a winger ? You obviously don't accept that , but as I said that is your opinion.

So although you were offended by my post, I don't believe you considered either of the alternatives to your own line of thought.

Like you, I will leave the matter now , and we will have to agree to disagree on the merits of the signing.

Sterling digs becoming more prevalent as well, guy has pretty much nailed the season but some still call him shit, "Raheem will never be a better player than Mahrez", do yourself a favour and go and give drugs-line a call for help :)

Look. Bar the fact that you said you were blocking me months ago I will attempt an answer. I wa not putting any of our players down. If I said Messi was better than any of our players would I be putting them down? Not at all. Mahrez was footballer of the year because he won Leicester the league. It is only an opinion. I love Raz and Leroy but I think Mahrez is a special player who will do wonders for us.

I wan't offended I was annoyed, none of my post warranted a scathing attack.

If you had replied with what you put in bold then it would have been fair enough but you didn't, it was a snide post to make you look clever.

As for the assertion that Pep isn't in the habit of buying wrong players, BRAVO @17m was a truly bad signing, so bad that he went out and spent 40m on another keeper a season later, so let us just be truthful and say he can make a mistake like everybody as he is human at the end of the day.

What is there to accept by the way ?

I don't think he is better than what we have, although I did say he was a good player, just pricey at 75m and is another body to get in the way of youth development, his attitude also stinks, I can't stand players who go on strike, it is a huge mark against their character.

My concern is he's 27.

Would much rather us spruik this kinda money on someone 3-4 yesrs to get the best value out of it.

Indeed, sometimes it is just easier to read and not bother replying, it takes up a lot of the night arguing lol also not as much fun since I stopped drinking lol

It's al about having top quality squad depth. Mahrez isn't a gamble imo, I think he's at the level of Leroy and Raz. We need optios, especially after a World cup, when all our forwards will be in Russia.

I thought you were going to call an end to this ?

And for what it's worth I wasn't trying to be clever- but there was nothing in your post which I found of any merit - sorry if that upsets you.

So if we sign Mahrez, you will be disappointed as he is over-priced , has a poor attitude, is a barrier to our youth development , and has a " huge mark against his character .

I on the otherhand will be pleased because it means imo that we have signed a quality player who will give the team another good attacking option and more depth and flexibility.

We've been "close" for about a week.

So we've still got a couple of days, at least, of it being "imminent" before it's over.
