There isn't any risk by issuing a statement basically saying we have negotiated a deal and the only reason it's not happening is because agent / player have been dishonest. Protects our integrity for future deal making regardless of this outcome imo

We must still be very confident for some reason leaving our arse hanging out.

Certainly possible. To the extent, Pep might have attempted to personally intervene.

Although he has little time for people who give their word (Alves and Sanchez) and then try to stiff us.

Not the same. Even Alves is on record as stating he shared a private plane with Neymar to Messi's wedding that particular weekend, when he told him he was going to Paris and should join him.

City aren't going to be in the loop at that stage.

As already mentioned by others maybe we won’t sign a DM and instead we’ll get another quality fullback and use Delph in the center. Makes sense to a fat dense git such as meself.

That's my only concern. We generally deal direct with agents and establish a strong rapport over many months.

All the same, agents have been known to lie on the odd occasion.

The world and his dog seem to know the links between Jorginho and Chelsea are strong, he traveled to London earlier today and his current club have said he wants to move to London and not join City and while all this is going on we briefing local press he has had no contact with Chelsea....
