Jorginho

It does seem a bit odd that we were willing to pay 50m for Sterling three years ago, 50m for Stones two years ago, 57m for Laporte in January but we weren't willing to pay 58m for Jorginho, a player who Pep clearly likes, who wanted to come here and for a position we need to strengthen in. I understand the principle of only signing players who are 100% committed to City but it could see us lose out on a lot of key targets as we've already witnessed with Alves, Sanchez and now Jorginho. It's admirable but is it realistic?

Having said that, I'm confident that Pep and the club will have a plan. Whether that's an alternative to Jorginho or being creative with the players we already have.
Nothing odd at all IMO. We apparently had an agreed financial position with both Napoli and player. I am delighted we hold our position if they then start to move the goal posts

I've searched the media this morning for confirmation of the expert opinion on here that he has gone to Chelsea. I found nothing.

The issue with the transfer forum these days is its filled with Football Manager players, hell bent on signing 11 shiny new toys every window and when they cant or should i say, when we dont, they get pissy about it.

Does last seasons squad look like it is in need of a major overhaul?

No is the answer and it wont get one, rightly so.

Already stronger with the signing of Mahrez and the window isnt closed yet.

Coupled with having Mendy back who barely played last season, that’s like having a another new player.

Any new info on this today?

Independent quoting Sarri and Jorginho were at Chelsea last night but could be bull.

They will want to unveil Sarri first, then Jorginho as “look who our new manager has convinced to join Chelsea”

still think we need a DM this summer. even someone like N`Zonzi would add power and presence to the team at times.

I take your point about FM but the defensive minded role Fernandino fills needs more depth. He’s not going to lasr forever and we know that players his age can decline precipitously. Like with Yaya, the legs can just go. Do we have some young tyro waiting to step up? Sure we csn play Gundy but he’s there for Silva and Kev as well.

Now that our main target has chosen London we do need a signing. Personally I don’t care if it’s an FM superstar, a kid, or some under the radar guy I haven’t heard of who costs chump change.

And championship squads always need refreshing anyway. Always have to be moving onwards and upwards. My ideal is this refreshment comes from some of our young players like Foden and Diaz. I don’t know enough about others to know if there’s a Ferdy type among them.

Certainly want to see Foden getting games if he doesn’t go out on loan. Christ knows England have to find an actual midfielder from somewhere.

True enough. But we did need one player for one position. I actually think we can just about tide ourselves over, following this débâcle, although it obviously isn’t ideal. We’ve got Delph, we’ve got Danilo, we’ve got Gundo. None of them are box to box, as Fern is, or even close to it. But I doubt that it’s wise to rush out and buy someone for that position at this point. People talk about only wanting players who deeply want to play for City. But that’s a two-way street. Players have got their egos (like all of us) and any player coming in now would know that he’s very much second best. Not at all ideal either. Personally, I think we should wait for the January window, or next summer, and make absolutely sure, in so far as these things are possible, that we get a genuine quality DM who dreams of working with Pep, as Mahrez obviously did.
Nothing’s changed. We’ve got a ridiculously good team, which we haven’t even seen the best of. It’s just that we’ve got this one player, in a key position which requires a lot of work who is, let us say, getting up there. We’ll manage. We won’t walk it, but we’ll be champions. Again.

What really gets my goat is how we get raked over the coals in every single deal for every last pound but other "big clubs" will give each other these sweetheart deals to keep the cartel alive. James Rodriguez on a 2 year loan from Real to Bayern? Kingsley Coman 2 yr loan Juve to Bayern then a £17m buy?? Douglas Costa loan from Bayern to Juve. Those are just the ones that immediately pop into my head, I'm sure there's many more examples.

It's corrupt as fk. I hate the old cartel clubs.

Agree with this. It’s a very good way to try and stop us....

Frankly if we had agreed to pay a higher figure Chelsea would still have been privvy to that amount and would have simply bid higher.
My opinion is we were simply used to get a figure to aim at.

Seems like a package deal for manager and player.

That's about it. Shafted by ADL. I'm not quite sure at what point Jorginho broke his word but he did. Football transfers are a dog eat dog world.

We don't know this. If he agreed to come if we agree fee with napoli then maybe he didn't break his word
