We've got enough....

thats that then,i'm confident we have enough, dinho can do 1 more season used carefully
I suppose Delph may be part of the thinking to provide cover at dm. He practically fulfils this role anyway as an inverted full back when he pushes inside. If he does get the nod along with gundogan, at a minium I would expect City to be back in for a left back to free up Delph. As covering both left back and dm positions may be a big ask. If City don't even move in the market along these lines, it's the only time I think I would be worried. For if Delph or Fern are out for whatever reason, we definitely begin to look a little thin in their respective positions.

The sad thing is the person already in the squad most suited to this pivot role is KDB, his ability to pick a pass from deep as well as his close control and engine make him ideal. The problem is his value further up the pitch. I do wonder though if Pep would drop him further back if Ferny got injured or hit a slump in form.

I think not signing a replacement for Fernandinho/ alternative to Jorginho might turn out to be a mistake. I know we added Mahrez so our transfer window is already a million times better than the disaster window after Mancini won the League... but Fernandinho is 33 and the backup options are not great. Delph , imho, was a better left back than Midfielder... bit concerning if this is true.

It will be interesting to see what Pep does if both Fern and Gundo are unavailable. Lots of people think Delph, but I'm not so sure. Delph at DM with Mendy and Walker as our fullbacks will be hard to play our way out of the back. KDB is interesting and yes his value is up the pitch further, but perhaps with the addition of Mahrez who has good crosses and a creative spark we could use KDB as the #6 with Delph inverting at LB to help defensively. Of all the youngsters Aleix Garcia is probably the best, but not good enough. Perhaps in a cup game to help give others a rest.

I agree. We were lucky that Fernandinho didn't have any injury. He is 33 now and I don't think he can maintain the superhuman levels of last season. It's too much to ask of him imo.
The funny thing is people here wanted the Mahrez signing when we had cover for the RW position but the same people are saying that we don't need a cover for Fernandinho when we are so lightweight in that position.
I agree completely.

I think we very well could see Pep play him there in games where we know we'll be dominating possession against a parked bus. You're right, as good as he is further up the pitch his skill set fits exactly what Pep would like out of the pivot. Not to mention if we have Bernardo and Spanish Dave in front of him we shouldn't really drop off in those positions.

Maybe we see something like this in some games this season,
I'm just concerned that we have no creativity in the side.
------------------------------Ederson--------------------------

Mahrez-----------Bernardo--------Silva---------------Sane

Hopefully Claudio Gomes is good enough to play a couple games this season. Dele-Bashiru and Iker Pozo have great potenial, maybe we could see more of them if they do well in preseason?

Just hope the club aren't making the same mistake as the season after Mancini won it and then after Pellers won it as well. The chairman said we weren't going to sit on our laurels this time (though he said couple of quality additions rather than 4-5 players)

However good Mahrez is (and he is) it wasn't an area of priority. We haven't addressed this and we have one truly defensive minded midfielder and the rest are square pegs in round holes......Id be very worried to see Ilky lining up instead of Ferna in any big game. As good as he is going forward the guy is poor defensively; his tackling is. no existent I wonder if this Gomez kid is someone who Pep is thinking he can play?

Either that or we pray that Erna doesn't get any long lasting injuries.

I think its a mistake not to bring anyone in when clearly we were after someone .

what you meant to say, no DEFENCE in this side......

In the games that count eg Dippers, Rags and latter stages CL Dhino will play. I would prefer another DM to be brought in, but not just anyone it needs to be the right fit.

I cannot imagine there are only one or two that fit the bill. I know we don't have unlimited resources but we have financial clout and need to use it at key times and this is one of them

From what I’m seeing and hearing I’d say delph is going to become our back up cdm and funds will be diverted elsewhere
