Staying on current salary to sit in the stands. It’s a lack of ambition I don’t want to see in any player associated with the club.

How on earth is staying and wanting to fight for his place a lack of ambition? Was it lack of ambition that made Delph turn down a move to Stoke?

Far different to Delph,, he got lucky lets be honest that Mendy got long injury, otherwise doubt he would have got a look in. We also have Danilo and Laporte as well as Delph to play LB, so its not like he is just 1 injury away from playing at LB like Delph was. (as Pep had yet to test Danilo there early in the season + Laporte wasn't here at the time).

Exactly. Surely it's the definition of ambition - he wants to fight and become a key part of a trophy winning team. Isn't that kind of the ultimate goal of a footballer?

Staying to fight for a place? He won’t get one (major injury crises at the club notwithstanding), he’s not good enough, so in this case he’s being unrealistic rather than ambitious! I can appreciate it might be a fine line, but his own career interests would be best served by going. I mentioned the example of Ben Mee earlier.

He's 21 not 31. No idea if he'll end up good enough or not, but writing him off at such a young age is the kind of thing Mourinho did with KDB. You'd have thought people would learn not to do that.

He played his fair share of games last season so why will that suddenly change this year? Especially if he continues to improve and progress?

The kid obviously has a lot more faith and confidence in his ability than a few of our supporters.

I like him,he's refreshing in more ways than one.

I'm glad he's staying,as much potential as the 2 two getting in the team at the moment and a great attitude on top. Perfect type to develop. Some people will take any fuckin signing for some reason .

Don't like the aggression on this thread. The kid wants to stay and help us win trophies.

Who knows if he'll develop into a top player but Pep has always praised his dedication and attitude.

I'm glad he's staying and hope he gets some game time.

Pre-season vs a midfield of Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum and playing in a team largely made up of kids. Absolutely running the show, and yet people are writing him off aged 21.

The lad has the ambition to play for us, and yet people are making judgement on a 21 year old being played out of position in his debut Premier League season.

He's earned a chance. If he ends up not good enough then so be it.

Bony and Mangala both displayed an admiral attitude, as did Joe. Unfortunately it takes more than attitude to be succesful in the game. He only managed 14 games last season and with our squad arguably stronger this season, particularly in the area he featured for us it will be unlikely he gets more game time this time out.

It is great he wants to stay and fight but I think most are just being realistic in recognising that it is almost certainly going to be a losing battle.

I only wish him the best whatever option he goes with....Club did accept a bid, so clearly dont think he'll play a big part this season..Pep always says that the young lads need game time, so maybe Pep/club felt he'd get that elsewhere....I wont knock the lad for wanting to stay at the best club in the prem but would have liked to see him "bet on himself" and go to a place where he's got more chance of being a regular. We've done many loan deals this summer and find it interesting we want to sell not loan him out to get "game time".....makes me think the club doesnt feel he good enough.

Wasn't long ago we would have been buzzing for a player like Alec wanting to play for City, but because of the quality of the squad a few fans are turning their noses up at Alec. I for one am please he's staying

Well he certainly won’t be playing in midfield for City. They probably want him as a starti

He made 14 appearances last season and is turning 22 this year.

From Stoke away on March 12 until Brighton at home on May 9. He made ZERO appearances even though the league was virtually won. He was also fit. In that period he made the bench only twice.

So almost two months without even a substitute appearance.

How can he improve and prove himself if he can’t even get into the squad? Would understand if he was 18/19 but this lad is 22 is a few months.

Rumours are even the club told him he won’t play (if not making the squad in such a long time wasn’t obvious enough).
He's 21 mate, and its obvious he's still improving,in both his ability and his physique.Of course he will make the squad,we are playing in 4 competitions that we want to win.

He can play in several positions, one of which half the forum has been getting their knickers in a twist over as we haven't enough cover, apparently.

It can only be a plus having him around,so i dont get the negativity.

I wonder what melt down this forum would have gone into if we had signed a 20 year old Spaniard who had just finished a loan spell at Spanish second division team Eibar? That is exactly what we would have been doing had we signed one David Silva in 2006.

Its a barmy way of thinking.

A relatively unknown Harry Kane was still learning his trade at a similar age, look at him now.

He will make the squad in September maybe. Make a few appearances in the cups and that’s it. Next summer his value will be half of what it is now.

He can do himself good and the club and join Wolves. If City wanted him to stay they wouldn’t have accepted the bid. So he is practically going against what’s best for everyone.

I will be very surprised if he even matches the 14 appearances he made last season as there is simply no place for him. In a fight for 3rd choice leftback with Laporte and Danilo and behind Foden in midfield choices so I don’t understand why everyone wants him to stay. Makes zero sense for both the player and the club.

Pep gave his blessing on letting Delph go to Stoke last season, it was as good as done until he changed his mind and stayed. And thankfully it was a great decision.

I'm glad the kid is staying and can def see him getting some decent playing time.
