Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

People always make out its the player who makes these demands. He has a management team who do all the agreements. Sterling will say to them, yes I wana stay. They will then say right, leave it with us. They then try and get the most money out of the club as possible. Not just for Raheem but for their company as well. A game of cat and mouse from both the club and his management then proceeds.

Sometimes these deals go quick, sometimes they don't. Fernandinho took 18 months to agree his extension. No abuse aimed at him though as he isn't of any interest to the media.

Its business not personal. Both sides will release good and bad info to the media to try and make each other budge. Its all part of the game. His agent will have said things like he has offers from Madrid, Barca etc and that Raheem wants to talk to them. City will say things like, we are looking at players around Europe and we could sign such and such if Raheem doesnt sign soon.... Its all bravado and bargaining.

Meanwhile its Sterling who gets the sh1t in the press. End of the day its his name. Happens with all big players when they don't sign a new deal quickly.

I bet Sterling isn't enjoying this dragging out but this happens in football.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense really: they said he was gonna try and get offers based on 'a good world cup' but his contract doesn't end til 2020 so how would he "run his contract down and leave on a free?" Surely he would have been agitating for a move last season when he was in hot goalscoring form? Also, waiting for offers from big clubs doesn't mean he would want to leave, it just puts the player in a better position to negotiate.

Sorry mate, your story is plausible up to the bit about him 'running down his contract and leaving on a free'. It completely contradicts the story.

Mmm, I wonder if you are right and the players are actually employed by the agents. The player is just a pawn in a big game, no power , no say.
I always thought it was the other way round, learn something new everyday.-)

Its not as basic as you want to make it out. Business is business. Sometimes we don't get what we want. Sometimes we do.

Just because he was looking for offers off a good world cup doesn't mean he would have to had move that summer? From what I understand he felt a good World Cup would prick the ears of the big clubs abroad at which point they may contact him or his agent. Sterling/Aidy Ward could then say 'look I have two years left on my current contract, once that expires I will move to you'. By doing that Sterling honours his contract, the buying club save on a transfer fee and Sterling pockets a fat signing on fee. I was also never told or have I implied that 'Sterling wants to leave now' I was told he would be looking for a move abroad at the end of his contract (Sterling has openly stated he wishes to play abroad at some point)

Just because he had 3 years left on his contract at the time doesn't make it implausible for him to have a good World Cup and in turn earn himself a move abroad once he has honoured his contract with us.

No offence mate but that's one of the most stupid suggestions I have ever read on here. Transfer dealings 2 years in advance? Really?

You really believe he any club would wait for a player to run his contract down for 2/3 years? a week is a long time in football, the more you post the more ludicrous it sounds

I don't think you fully understand how transfers in football work Karen, particularly transfers of elite players. To think a transfer of a player is done end-to-end within a week is quite naive.

I have immediate family who I am very close to who are professional footballers at championship level and I have seen first-hand transfer negotiations begin 12-18 months before they actually complete. For a club to monitor Sterling's performances and personal situation for 2 years (particularly given his age) before making any agreement doesn't seem to be quite as ludicrous as you seem to be making out.

But hey, I was only passing on what I was told from a credible source. Let's sit it out and see what happens.

Thanks for patronising me,saying a week is a long time in any context is just a saying,i don't believe for a second any player plans to run their contract down for 2 or 3 yrs or any elite club saying ok we will wait for you to do it

Genuine question @karen7 - Have you ever felt this way before about any City player as you do regarding Mr Sterling ?

I really do commend the way you stick up for him at even the slightest sledge of him,it is commendable, but it got me thinking had you ever done this before,or any player even come close to the feelings you have for him ?

Sergio, dave, joe, pretty much them all at one time or another, this is not so much about raz but what he is saying any player would run down a 2/3 yr contract and a club saying we will wait for you,it's a daft notion if not least we would not let that happen

Aguero is the closest. There isn't a City player I dislike, regardless of what people think of my views on Sterling. I think it says more about you if you are able to look at a player with balance rather than through blue tinted specs.

Feel a bit bad on the guy getting shot down by simply passing some info on

That's good to hear,they all matter,and that's what matters.

I just feel you will be in a right state if the unthinkable happened for you,and he left

Come on now Tom, if someone posts something like that there's always going to be questions regardless of what the subject is.

Mate,me and you,and a few others should not talk about liking or disliking Sterling after what we have put on this thread over the last few months,in fact reading back I'm pretty pissed about some things I have said, but being a man of my word,I'll stick to it.

I've seen some shit wear that shirt over the years, and Sterling isn't,but not many have infuriated me more than him I must admit, that's why I pour out my emotions too much for some on here at times.

If he stays, great,if he goes,so what, that's always been my standpoint

Now where's my other strongbow
