Theresa May

What I find incredible is just how astonishingly bitter you lefties are. So completely blinded by an irrational hatred that that you can't see the wood for the trees.

I don't *hate* anybody. I find Corbyn to be an old fool and a dangerous one at that, but I don't hate him. You lot really need to chill out.
Fair enough but you have no reason to hate him. He's never been in power.
When people say that hate the Tories they have reason. The party has shown huge disregard for all sorts of people from the disabled, the young, the Windrush generation, the unemployed, the workers on zero hours contracts, nurses, in fact most people apart from those lovely people in the city.

Yep, there's nothing irrational about hating the Tories, their actions bring misery to millions. They don't give a fuck and never have for anyone other than their own.

Absolutely mate.
Jezz is joining in and looking like a prat but unlike Mavis he is in control of his party and doesn't need to look like a prat to ingratiate himself.

You confuse "disregard" with "living within our means".

Of course everyone would like free jam and cakes for all, but that's not real life. Opposition can promise the earth because they don't actually have to run the economy. And guess what happens in the thankfully now rare occassions they do get to run it? They overspend and fuck it up. Time after time after time.

Staggering anyone STILL doesn't get it. But I suppose when free cakes for all are on offer, people get blinded by it.

Oh yes. He’s fully in control of his party..

I believe our national debt has been going up despite this living within our means.

In addition the UK is one of the most unequal societies on earth, which is not a good thing.

There are different models of capitalism.

It's simple, you stop paying a real wage and cut peoples chance to save (austerity).
People on low and middle end wages start tightening their belts.
Businesses like restaraunts and shop they would have spent at suffer from loss of business.
Companies small to medium that drive the economy don't have room or income to grow, this affects other sectors (construction, service, insurance etc).
The economy stalls.
Government debt goes up
A useless government with a fucked up ideology decides the only way to solve this is more cuts and austerity, not investment.

And the cylce starts agin.

Austerity has not and never will work, and may trying to pretend their stance has changed and this government have any idea how to boost the economy, country and it's citizens is ridiculous.

Viva la revolution ;-)

However you paint it the Windrush incident cannot be called living within our means.

Nor can the treatment of people with proven disabilities unless you are a twat of course.

Whilst the deficit the Tories inherited has been hugely reduced. Until it’s a surplus then it obviously increases. You know that right?

If the Tories has cut spending to ensure such a surplus then you, len and fumble would have gone mental.

Just a reality check - all those promises from Mayday today are subject to her getting a good Brexit deal - if not what happens then? More than a bit disingenuous in a few areas - a couple that spring to mind are the claim that by not raising the fuel duty that is "money put in peoples pockets"..............err no it isn't its just money staying in peoples pockets as they aren't going to take any more. If she wants to put money in peoples pockets they need to reimburse us fuel tax. Second under Labour if they renationalise rail then you pay twice...once to buy a ticket and twice in the nationalisations costs............however at the moment you do anyway - once to buy a ticket and once to pay huge subsidies to rail operating companies................just pointing out the obvious like.

Also as Kamal Ahmed has just pointed out on the BBC news at 10..........the Treasury has just released documents showing we are by far from out of the woods right now despite all the sacrifices ( and the picture painted by Mayday today ) and that in the next 12 months £12bn of austerity cuts are about to take place.

Oh Jesus not that again. We're not going to have to go around that ****ing debt vs deficit loop are we?

The debt was increasing by circa £150bn per year when the Tories took over, i.e. the DEFICIT was £150bn/year. OF COURSE the debt has gone up, because it was increasing by £150bn every year. How on earth could it not have done??? Had the Tories not inherited a £150bn/year deficit from Labour, then the debt would not have gone up, would it. Had they inherited a surplus rather than a deficit, the debt would have been coming down.

They 'forget' the difference between public finance in 1997 and the utter shitshow Blair/Brown left 13 years later.

Just out of interest, how many of their 26 years in power since Margaret Thatcher was first elected have the Tories run a surplus? Presumably if you're demanding if of Labour (after a global financial crash) then the Tories must have a pretty strong record on running a budget surplus?

Decent article on Theresa May. That's without mentioning her latest announcement on scrapping limits on local authorities to borrow in order to finance new housing developments. Hated by both the right and left, I'd say she's doing a better job than many before her.

The coverage of her speech yesterday just reinforces how vacuous and superficial the media and society (in general) have become when people care more about the way she looks, sounds and moves than anything to do with law, policy or even just policy announcements. I honestly think we're one generation away until the winner of Love Island is sending people to death camps with a 200 seat majority.
