De Bruyne injury - Back in Training (p89)

Wouldn't it be better to rotate the Silva's and KDB more? David isn't the youngest anymore while Bernardo looks like a good replacement looking towards the future, afaik if you want to keep aging players good as long as possible it's best to give them fewer games eitherway. KDB played a load of games last year so perhaps a few less wouldn't hurt neither.

Personally feel Bernardo is now every bit as good as his namesake. Therefore KDB, Dinho and one of the Silvas Bearing in mind he's younger I'd give BS 60% of the starts.

He can also play RW if needed to tactically as he might have yesterday if Kevin had played.

I think we are a better team with Delph, far more fluid and solid. He also comes inside to help cover attacks where necessary and allows Sane the extra freedom.
Sorry mate. Really can’t agree with that. We’re miles better with Mendy and I think you’ll see that reflected in who plays all season when both are fit.

I agree Mendy's better, but I think that sometimes we'll want to have Delph on the pitch for tactical reasons.

As for De Bruyne, I feel like a weight has been lifted off me with him back in training.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Delph too, just find it bizarre that some prefer a converted midfielder to our supposed star full back that we broke a world record for that position in signing.

I know Benj has a few deficiencies however I still think he just needs a good solid run of games for us to see the best in the guy, and that it’s harsh to hold a few misplaced passes against him in a game like yesterday.

Same as @FantasyIreland 's setup but i'm going to be 'ThugLife' and play Mendy and Sane together

Walker---Laporte---Stones---Mendy
--------------KDB--------------
--------Silva-------Silva-------
----Sterling--Aguero--Sane-----

Player for player, that’s the best team in Europe for me.

Whether they could play together as a team is another matter, but I’d love to see us try it at home against a team like Fulham.

I dont see him as a converted midfielder,i see him as a brilliant utility player. We would not have broken all those records without him at left back, but thats not to say we could have done equally well or better with Mendy.

Back to Kev,can we play as effectively without Dinho?

I'm starting to feel a tad optimistic about Stones adapting to that position on the pitch, so at the moment? No. But in the future? Perhaps with Stones, but we'll be fine especially if we make the necessary expenditure in the transfer market.

I agree, we work better as a defensive unit with Delph, plus he has a good understanding with Sane that allows him freedom to be a winger than stifle him as Mendy does.

Yes i think so. Delph is the best option to deputise Fernandino IMO. I'm sure he would smash it as a DM.

Delph is our Sun Jihai.

No nonscence and reliable.

I was kinda surprised that we hadn't transfered a top class DM by now to rotate with Fern. But i suppose when it comes to converting a defender then we really have plenty of options since we focus on technicallity and athleticism in our defenders too. My first thought then would have been Kyle Walker though given sheer athleticism and overall quality however he's fine at his normal position just aswell so i guess Delph is worthy the try too.

There is a trend amongst City fans to assume that a deep lying midfielder has to be a hard tackling De Jong like player or a player with an engine like Fern or Milner but it could be a technical player like De Bruyne. Guardiola played in that position. Players like Alonso and Javi Martinez played a deep midfield role for Bayern so I could see De Bruyne playing there.

I prefer him using his running power and passing in danger areas but when you have players like B.Silva, David Silva etc in advanced positions, it might make sense to use him in a deeper role.

I prefer him playing a tucked LB position, which moves him up to LM, allowing our AMs to get forward.

For me, he gives away the ball too much to play that position, but tbf Dinho has seemingly been caught napping on the ball this’s season, because teams have finally figured out just how much of a lynchpin he is to the team set up. In fact, we saw it in the first 10-15 mins at Anfield, until we had some rotation in and out of midfield to relieve the pressure on him, allowing Silva and Brenardo to come short, make the angle and distribute the ball to the full back on the move down the line.

I noted that we were under a lot of pressure in first 15 mins but just interpreted it as extreme Liverpool effort dying off. I was so impressed with City's calmness on the ball in the face of Liverpool's pressing - particularly Ederson.

We cant drop Bernardo on Kevs return so do we employ him slightly deeper and as a replacement for Dinho?

Walker---Laporte---Stones---Delph
--------------KDB--------------
--------Silva-------Silva-------
----Sterling--Aguero--Sane-----

Isn't that what Martinez tried in the World Cup and it completely neutered KDB?
