General Videogame Thread

Im so impressed by EA Sports on how they each and every year succeeds in making FIFA more and more unplayable. When is 2k or whoever going to realize that this is easy competion as long as you pay out for licences and actually make a fun game that resembles the sport?

They've only just been released no?
Yes, but in 12 months the ray tracing (R in the RTX) will be a game changer. I reckon 24 months or so will see RTX as a dependency for 'high' or higher graphics modes and gen 1 RTX will need SLI to manage anything like gen 2 RTX as it isn't anywhere close to optimised. RTX seems a potential game changer.

Perhaps but I'm not really willing to spend that much on just a gpu in all honesty.
Obviously if it works out well then you'll probably get cheaper cards with Ray tracing in a few years

Will be interested to see how it progresses, the good thing is as technology keeps progressing so rapidly the trickle down effect speeds up for tight gits like myself :D
Those changes are just current RTX vs GTX too, and that means the tensor cores in the RTX cards are almost disabled. I can't wait to see how the deep learning tensor cores improve rendering.

Few more details on Red Dead Redemption 2 have dropped

88gb game size plus 3gb day one patch

60 hour main mission

100% completing the game will take around 100-150 hours

Biggest game map Rockstar have created(almost 3 times bigger than Red Dead Redemption)

192 missions and side missions

500,000 lines of dialogue (Fallout 4 has 110,000)

Online will release 2 weeks after the game

Development started in 2012

300,000 motion capped animations

Rumoured to be the most expensive video game ever made

They really should start delivering the day before release then, allowing us to get it installed and patched before playing on 'release' day.

Seems like a card between the 1050ti and the 1060 power wise, seems like there's more value in the used market for GPUs right now
I think it's some way behind the 1060 judging by the userbenchmarks. You might get a used R9 290 around the £100 on ebay.

Better yet I saw some R9 390s for around £130, not sure which brand or the location of them but that seems a great price if you have no card.

Starting to turn my attention towards the Rx 570. You can pick one up used with a 2 year warranty for £135 from cex and in some cases it outperforms a 1060 3GB. I think the R9 390 is a bit power hungry from my memory
That said I saw the 8GB version of this card on sale for £160 on scan today, a fantastic deal for anyone who wants a card new.

Similar performance to the R9 390(390 seems to edge it for FPS on most games by the looks of it) but a good price for brand new for sure.

Yeah but the R9 390 is a massive power hog in comparison.
The R9 390 is around 245w TDP
The Rx 570 is around 122w TDP

Both cards perform fairly similarly but the RX 570 is newer and more power efficient

Yeah that's the main reason I wanted to switch from my r9 280, have AMD gone more power efficient these days or is it much the same?
