Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Can't believe some posters believe edwoodhead runs our club.
No we are well run but Stirling is nothing if not resilient.
If he decides City have not offered enough he will see out his contract and leave on a free and there is absolutely nothing anyone in the worlds best club can do about it.
Do you think Stirling will allow himself to be bullied out of the club?

With respect that's a fans point of view, there are serious multi million pound negotiations in progress with both sides wanting a solution.
Hopefully there will be one.

Not pushed if we sell that scottish city or not. Its Sterlings contract that needs sorting.

STERLING,how many more times

We ask him to stay, he asks to leave,we ask him to sign a contract, he signs, plenty of clubs out there willing to sign him, we get a massive sum of money for him but lose a once in a lifetime talent , who's the winner?

Surely it's not in Sterling's interest to run his contract down either. Depending on which reports you believe, staying on his current salary for the next 18 months rather than signing a new contract will cost him around £5m in lost earnings. If we're only £30k a week apart (going off reports) then it ought to be resolved soon unless he is actually keen to try play abroad. It's not in his interest to hold out especially when you consider the fact that 18 months is a long time in football and a team like Real Madrid could easily turn their attentions elsewhere in that time (in fact i'd be surprised if they didn't). I know there's signing on fees and stuff but it would be a risk for him to miss out on the wages and assume his stock will be still as high/he'd still be wanted in 18 months. That's assuming Real are interested in the first place. I think he'll sign a new deal or we'll sell him for a decent amount. If we aren't offered a decent amount then maybe it would be possible to come to an arrangement where he signed a new deal that ensured he was getting a pay rise but with a release clause set low enough that he'd get the move he wants but high enough that other teams couldn't totally take the piss.

What is all this running his contract down business? there is no evidence of this, chances are a deal will be done, some try really hard to paint him as some kind of villain

Can anybody really see him at Madrid? Imagine the backlash he would get from their own fans as soon as he misses a 1v1 or the second he uses his left foot.

Sterling is in a strong position and its inevitable they're going to push for the maximum they can get but his advisors need to make him aware that in footballing terms he will not get it any better than what he curently has now. Sterling has become a key player for us and he would be a big loss were he to leave, but he isn't irreplaceable like a Sergio, Silva or kdb are, in fact he's arguably the most dispensible player from our regular starting 11 and there's no way the club will cave to his demands given the impact that would have on the rest of the squad. you need only look at United to see how out of control it could get. I anticipate a lot of links to wide players in the coming months.

Because people are saying if he doesn't sign, we can just sell him. Some are simply pointing out that isn't the only possibility, and that selling him requires his agreement

Not arsed if he goes or stays will give others the opportunity to step up, we have world class players who want to play for this club, he is not world class but he can be but he’s got a long way to go.

The longer he doesn't sign a contract it is being run down by the day.
