Like you say no reason at all foreign refs can't be used. They shouldn't have any club loyalties and saves nonsense like this even being brought up. They also seem to be from what I seen much more competent in doing their job.
Well said Tom.He was the ref when we played and beat Liverpool 2-1 a few years back wasn't he? Rodgers was quick to complain about his performance and how a ref from Manchester shouldn't be reffing a team from Manchester. He wasn't too bad that day, Liverpool had a goal disallowed (wrongly) but that was the linesmen rather than Taylor. Taylor also missed their defenders attempts at every corner to get inside our players. Rodgers point was right though and all would agree that he shouldn't do any game involving City, United, Liverpool.

I’m going to disagree with you now.No reason why it couldn't have happened either. Other than the powers that be want to dictate clearly. Even if there is no dodgy reason behind picking him (which there probably is) then it is just sheer stupidity and shows just how thick those at the top are.

The blocking of reffing is impractical after a while. You can get away with Dean not reffing the Merseyside teams, but Taylor and Kavanagh are Gtr Manchester-based, Mason is Bolton - you could easily run out, and it deprives an up-and-comer of doing the big games to make it big.

They do and they don't. I don't want a random ref who is foreign they still need to be good at their job. Clearly ours aren't if they can't get picked for the World Cup. I also think it is accepted by most the champions league refs are ott probably under instructions. If they was advised to let more go as we do in England I think they'd improve too. Taylor is shite regardless of where he is from, if we had a shite Italian at least we can't blame his footballing allegiances

I think they have something like 11 refs to call upon whereas the equivalent in both Spain and Germany have over 20 refs.
Now why would they want to keep the number small?
