Interesting discussion on the indy football podcast this week where they basically admit to not watching football matches and especially the ones they are reporting on

Years ago, I knew a 'reputable' sports reporter (City fan as it happened) who told me he used to get paid for several match reports/ background pieces on a Monday, writing under assumed names & all he did was read a selection of Sunday papers & write each report based on that. So he got paid for writing about games he had never seen.

They were talking about how they watch football very differently when they aren't working. Basically when they are working they are trying to write the report on the match. They will have a narrative in mind and then will spend the match redrafting what they have done. In particular the second half of matches are spent concentrating more on their report than the actual game

Was it the guy that used to post on here?

Ta for explaining.

No, no. This was a veteran who was at his peak in the 60s 70s 80s. He also brokered some huge deals involving big figures in the game & his cut was a lot of money, even back then.

It opened my eyes to what a bunch of dogicants they are, as he was technically one of the 'good guys'.

When you say dogicants, are you refering to Roy Keane by any chance ?

Not really answering your question but ...

Jamie Jackson's report on the Roma v City CL game a few years back when we needed to win to progress and did so 2-0 bore absolutely zero resemblance to the game that I saw. It was almost as if he'd written it before the game was even played!

No one said Neil Custis? I will.
Alyson Rudd
Ian Herbert
John Dillon
Can’t fvcking stand Rudd, she’s the perfect example of positive discrimination gone mad.

Watching her on Sunday supplement used to make me seethe. She speaks in broad cliches and knows nothing of the intricacies of the game nor the pre PL era yet she used to hold court on the show tearing the great Arsene Wenger to shreds

The lady who was on Sunday just gone showed Rudd for the amateur that she is.

I loved the documentary that covered THAT 3-2 victory from the journalists angle, when the lad from Manchester said he had to literally rewrite the story 3 times in five minutes.

Dogicants? Rogue spell checker, made up or simply a great word?

Ian Ladyman to question Pep achievement as now diminished , to question the one of the best coaches in world he needs a good slapping .
