Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

This all reminds me of when everyone was convinced we wouldn't fail FFP and then we did, now everyone is convinced that UEFA and the PL will do nothing but I don't see how nothing will be done somewhere by someone.

Surely if all these allegations and emails were from the period of time when we already failed FFP then there wouldn't even be a story, or am I missing something?

I assume the “story” will be that we should’ve failed it by more and didnt give full disclosure etc, so that we should be retrospectively given an additional fine/limitation/ban etc?? Just guessing a possible answer to your point

Thank you for replying. I guess that is my point, it is only guess work and I am sure they will want to save face and punish us but then you read through the comments on here and some are so confident that nothing will or even can be done that you start to wonder what all the fuss is about.

Then you remember the same attitude by many of the same people back in 2013 (?) About not failing FFP and then we failed.

I don't understand how so many can be so confident but to be fair I am not privy to anything other than what is readily available and have to take it at face value.

Some people are closer to the numbers my friend. There are 1 or 2 on here who can be listened to with confidence.

We would have passed (escaped punishment) FFP in 13. Goalposts were moved, though.

UEFA statement on Financial Fair Play
Monday 12 November 2018

Financial Fair Play (FFP) has led to a step change in the health of the finances in European club football. Seven years ago, European clubs had a cumulative debt of €1.7bn. Last year, it was a profit of €600m. Without question, it has been a success for the game across Europe..

Surely that's a non sequitur. Why are they comparing debt to profit ? If they had said that debt had been reduced, they may, possibly, have had a point but they don't tell us what it is now so that we can compare.

An increase in profits across European clubs, doesn't necessarily reflect anything to do with FFP. City, for example have had negligible debt throughout but recorded £10m of that profit. They don't tell us what the overall profit was 7 years ago so that we can judge. I'd suggest that any increase in profitability is more to do with the huge increase in transfer fees enabling poorer clubs to turn a profit and tv income to make the rich richer (but, in some cases, not reduce their staggering debt)

A disingenuous, if not completely false, claim and a statement paving the way for another assault on us in my view.

That's correct. I'm just finishing off a long and detailed piece proving, using UEFA's own documents (not hacked I hasten to add), just how that unfolded and impacted us. If I'm right, we were just over £1m short of being able to escape punishment after the rule change, having previously been just over £3m to the good. Very fine margins.
Yes but that relatively small change resulted in us not being able to discount £100m? of wages. So a colossal change.

That’s assuming UEFA hadn’t worked out what we were doing already, and are well aware we were over inflating deals hence the fine. I’ve not heard anything saying we’ve been bad since that pount

Why do you think David Conn and the Guardian have held back in reviewing Der Spiegel's allegations. There's been the odd article in there but nothing major. I was wondering what line they would take.

I'm sure Conn is busy working on the financial irregularities at FCUM.

FFP is a framework which clubs that wish to play in UEFA competitions agree to abide by. It relies on the cooperation of clubs to declare a complete and genuine financial position. While UEFA can test the information it receives, it relies on that information being fair and accurate reflections of a club's finances.

UEFA conducts an annual assessment of all clubs against the break-even requirements of FFP on a rolling three-year basis. This includes a thorough assessment of clubs' financial positions on the basis of both the information disclosed by the clubs (based on their independently audited financial statements), as well as a number of compliance checks and analysis undertaken by UEFA (including independent external audits). If new information comes to light that may be material to this assessment, UEFA will use that to challenge the figures and will seek explanation, clarification or rebuttal from the club concerned.

Should new information suggest that previously concluded cases have been abused, those cases may be capable of being re-opened as determined on a case-by-case basis.

This approach is applied universally to all clubs that apply for a UEFA licence and participate in European club competitions.

Well we are not in debt so no worries.

I assume utd should be worried about this statement?

Fucking joke.

The bottom line in all this "they broke the rules" is there should not have been any rules to break.

Ffp is a clear as day attack on our club in order to protect the cartel.
Has to be illegal.

agree its coming to the time to blow this apart legally

Can only see this ending up in court as the attacks are relentless and at some point we have to defend ourselves.

I'm sure we'll be investigated and I'm sure it'll go to Court, but the catalyst won't be City wishing to defend themselves. It'll be the pressure being cranked up on UEFA and the EPL by the old guard. They want the total destruction of our club and they want it permanent, and faced with either losing the Champions League or taking on City, UEFA will take the latter option IMO, however much danger that entails for them
