General Videogame Thread

BF2 for me all the way. But still enjoy BF4, BF1 and have just downloaded BF V so looking forward to that when I get some time to play it.
Can understand why people were not so enamoured by the beta but think the same can be said for most other BF betas.

Had some fantastic times on BF2/Special Forces with a clan I was in, just for laughs. We all moved over Guild Wars and put in 100s of hours there for 12 months. Often wonder how some of them are

Competeley underwhelmed by the Playstation Store Black Friday Sale. Can't really see anything that hasn't been cheaper before, save maybe newer releases like AC Odyssey. And there isn't anything that isn't a AAA title on sale it seems, was hoping for some under £10 bargains.

Ah well, probably need to play what I have rather than buying more anyway! Back to RDR2 it is ;)

You sound surprised? Black Friday is their way of shifting stuff that could do with a sales boost/ or they have been paid to promote with the theory that you didn't know you needed it but you sure as hell do now.

The same for all so called Black Friday deals.

I've just finished The Shadow of Mordor, have to say it has aged very well to say it came out in 2014.

I don't play many games these days so maybe I'm easily pleased but to me the latest LithTech engine really showcased what's possible on DX11, I couldn't believe the framerate(50+fps) I was getting with so much on screen with my setup to be honest. Great game for those who enjoy LOTR.

Picked up Yakuza Kiwami as it's free on PSN this month. The game itself is incredibly repetitive and it's kind of a pain to read sooo many subtitles, but the side games are brilliant. I know understand how people get addicted to Mahjong and lose all their money playing non stop for days on end in seedy illegal Asian gambling dens, as I accidentally fell down the Mahjong hole and spent the best part of 6 hours playing it yesterday. I still don't really completely even understand the rules, but it's weirdly addictive.

Shogi on the other hand is just impossible, like chess but with pieces that all do different things, can transform and are just tiles with undecipherable characters on them so I have no idea which is which

Tempted to buy no man sky while it’s reduced to £15 has any one played it? And played it since the last update? Where I’ve read it has improved it.

I have it mate. All I will say is it's a game to pass time away on but it's really unoptimized. Probably because it's running on OpenGL

Any blues on here play overwatch? Noticed it's free on pc for a few days and also heavily discounted, it's been on my wishlist for a while

Good for a laugh with a group of you. Different characters do different things you have characters that heal other members, tanks to take more damage and so on. I never have fun playing Solo.

Thanks for that have you played it since the update?
Yes mate I have. I must say I blow quite hot and cold with it, it can get a bit samey sometimes and the frame drops are a bit irritating. Still definitely enjoyment to be had from it.
I think it's a game to have on in the background while watching YouTube or a TV show on another monitor possibly.

For my PC brethren it might be an idea to look on Steam today and over the weekend, lots of sales on.
Picked up age of empires 2 for about £3.

Happy to see Fallout 76 getting slammed by critics and fans alike. Bethesda have gotten away with releasing half arsed, buggy games for far too long. The gaming world has moved on and they need to catch up fast or risk being left behind.

Have to agree. Adored Fallout 3 to the point that I saw NV as well worth the extra money despite it not offering much new. Fallout 4 had so much promise and was enjoyable in bits, but that base building aspect bored me to death and I gave up even on the platinum.

I've not even considered picking up 76 for a second. When you have games like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spiderman showing that story driven and single player are profitable, generation defining games which look amazing and also try something new, then this latest offering just looks lazy. Especially at almost fifty quid.

A post apocalyptic multi-player base building, exploration game should work. But for me, when I think about fallout, I think about my story, my adventures, my route, my discoveries. Take that aspect away and it probably isn't fallout at all.

Has shades of ME Andromeda all over it this. End of a franchise?

I have just ordered 2 Sega Megadrive cloned PC controllers to play the emulated games, a couple of quid each and all the fun of the fair.

Where did you get them mate?

Ebay mate, there are literally loads of them on there, also the same controllers for nintendos SNES and NES. You can get wireless retro versions but they aren't really retro, you have got to sit on the carpet in front of the telly with everyone tripping over wires to get the full effect :)
