Crystal Palace (H) Post Match Thread

Maybe I'm wrong but im not sure the players are that arsed whether they retain the title or not. Looks like pep for all the great football is going to achieve no more than those that went before him. No plan B did we really need Laporte and stones back for the last ten. Need a bit of physicality in the box against the parked bus .

Id say 4 of our best players didnt start. So let's look at the victims.
Van dick.
Salad
Trent whatever and say the goalie.

Sorry they are miles off the top.
But they ARE top, so that statement is a bit daft.

They are without Gomez and Matip so Lovren is playing for them. Milner has also been injured and he's been one of their better players this season.

I don't think they are as bad as your blue tinted spectacles hope they are. We do still have a better squad, but unfortunately, the area that we are let down was perfectly visible today. We have no central mid without Fern. They have several players, while not as good, that can still do a job if they get injuries there.

Pep can you please play your best 11 from the start and work from there? KDB starts and we possibly go in at the half at least 1-0 up as he covers the ground in midfield to prevent them getting into certain spaces. Even a draw from today would have been acceptable because of injuries, rotation etc and still breathing down our rivals necks and at home to them in 12days time. Now we have a proverbial mountain to climb.

Next two away games are must win and we simply have to start with our best 11.

It all started with the team selection and Pep’s obsession in trying to convert Stones into a pivot, won’t happen in my IMHO. He then compounded it by leaving it too long to bring on KDB, clearly in the first half we had three centre backs as our creative players, with Bernie and Gundogan not getting involved. The KDB change should have happened in the first half. Then Sergio on at half time. KDB made a massive difference and can’t believe how anyone would be surprised I firmly believe if pep had made those changes then we could have won Now Walker, who I admit I’ve never been a fan of, had the worse game I’ve seen by a City player for a long time, one had game is excusable but he has got worse each game. The summer recruitment was bad the priority was a Ferdy backup and a left back but we bought Mahrez who I don’t see we needed.

The most disappointing aspect for me was was the utter lack of creative penetration from the middle, especially in the first half. It just highlights how much and Fern and Silva are the oil to this machine.
Gundo scored a lovely goal, but he and Bernardo were bobbins today; added to Stones in CM and there it is. Very fragile. Neither Gundo nor Bernardo have a tackle in them... see 2nd goal for confirmation.

Stones is not a fucking DM, let's hope that s the last we see of him there. Less said about walker the better.. we looked more like stoke than our usual self today, how many attempted balls did we put into their box? The ref was an absolute tosser aswell, bowing to the crowd and then that decision to pull back a goal kick to give him a yellow was a joke, not to mention the multiple yellows they should have got for diving.

As a lot have said would love to know where out new found love for the cross came from.

Oh it was totally due to lack of creativity and movement in the middle of the park.

Walker was a clown but Stones (although not his fault) sucked all dynamism out of our build up as by the time he had the ball looked up fainted a pass a few times before actually passing, Palace were set and in shape and ready to double up on our wide players wothought leaving gaps.

Like I say it’s not Stones fault as he’s a fine ball playing centre back but there was a whiff of Matic about him today and my two pence is Matic is the reason that the rags create so little as he wants too many touches on the ball and allows oposition to set themselves.

The more I think about it the more I notice what a howler Pep had and also how the sheikh needs to start investing money in DNA cloning to breed a 21 year old Fern!

Fernandinho is the fulcrum to how we play... which could also excuse why Pep didn’t replace him as he knows that his varied particular skill set in one player is a rarity and pivotal to his system so he needs to get that particular purchase bang on!

Milner played 90 mins yesterday,if they lost mane and salad they would feel it just like we have without kev and sergio

Could have easily come back from 2-1 if Guardiola would have actually subbed Kevin on at the start of the 2nd half. Guardiola is the reason why we have been so brilliant and he certainly is the best manager in the world at the moment. However, his one downside is that he does not seem to react quickly enough to change situations when he gets something wrong (Liverpool away in CL). I hate Mourinho but the one aspect he has been consistent at is being able to make alterations to his game and change the outlook. I would never want someone else to lead us but Guardiola has to improve at being able to modify the team when something goes to shit.

Think we need to concentrate on getting our passing and movement back to where it should be. The results will follow.

Thought Palace did a job on us and we weren't good enough to beat them so mustn't grumble.
