He was pretty anonymous tonight and we were quite fortunate Bernardo was doing the work of ten men.

The guy turns 33 on Tuesday though so maybe a game played at that intensity is too much of a reach at this point in his career. I'm kind of fine with that though, he's still capable of bossing it in the vast majority of games we play. The Liverpool games are quite unique in how frenetic they are

David was having an off night for sure against Liverpool - still, it's surprising that he was subbed off. Was his sub purely tactical, or did he pick up a knock/start not at full fitness?

I rewatched the game and I have to say it was tactical. We approached that game differently than we would against any other team. Lots of people would make the assumption that we didn't hold the ball well, but this was in Pep's tactical plan. He didn't want to get caught losing the ball in the middle of the park against this team who are clinical, so balls were played quickly up the pitch and we tried to bypass the midfield. Everytime our fullbacks got the ball it was played up the line or into channels instead. Laporte on the left to Sane and Danilo to Raheem. Consequently we lost the ball more and had to press more. Thus Bernardo looking like a possessed madman. Dave did have an off game on the ball for sure, but he's 34 and you can understand him not being able to do what Bernardo was doing thus the sub of Gundogan in for him.
