On strike again.
My Windows 8 laptop recently went blue screen of death and the kind repair shop person recommended I install Windows 7 Pro as an operating system instead.

Now my Bluray drive won't play Bluray disks.

Can anyone suggest a player? I have VLC but it won't play them anymore.

You are scuppered, one of the only working blu ray players is Power DVD. Which is just terrible. Really really really really terrible.

I think I'm using Power DVD 9, which came with my blu ray drive, I assume you can get it for free on the net, it's definitely not worth paying for.

Problem is the licensing. Sony charges for Blu-Ray licences so that means there are no legal free Blu-Ray players available. The main two are Cyberlink PowerDVD and ArcSoft Total Media Theatre. You can commonly find pirated versions of these if you object to paying to play Blu-Rays you already own. The poster above said Cyberlink is horrible, he's using an extremely outdated version now, it has improved. Of the two I'd opt for Cyberlink.

You can also use AnyDVD HD which decrypts them so you can use any player you want. Again, available pirated if you object to paying to play Blu-Rays you already own.

Arcsoft total media theatre is the program you need my friend.

MPC-HC will play them also :)

Skash is correct, powerdvd is now a lot better.

Mind you, I'm only saying PowerDVD because I've always found the 3D support to be superior to Total Media Theatre. For watching 3D though my preference is still Nvidia's 3D Vision Player, which is completely free, ultra lightweight at only 4MB to download and gets the job done brilliantly, including support for MP4 which I don't think PowerDVD has if I remember rightly.

I'm resurrecting this thread as the version of Cyberlink PowerDVD I got from @Skashion all those years ago is practically unusable as I cannot update it. Skashion left the forum a few years ago.

Has anyone got a link to an updated version, please?
