I thought his first couple of stand ups were pretty good, but his most recent one was shite. It was so much "Look at this hilarious thing I said on Twitter" which is basically the worst form of stand-up going. Even worse than "listen to this funny thing my kid said." Ricky Gervais can write a good show, but I imagine if he tried to go off script, he'd be pretty shite (as evidenced in that car crash of a performance at Live Earth when he had to fill for 5 minutes). He started his stand-up tour in huge venues where everyone was there to see him, so he's never had to deal with the room full of people who don't know who you are and heckle you.Agreed. The Office is brilliant but his stand up is just not funny.

Think about it has anyone, hand on heart ever seen a really funny comedian come out of Liverpool. (Although Peter Serafinowitz probably proves my theory wrong) The list is long of unfunny comics coming from the land of smiles.

How can’t you like Max and Paddy. The scene in the prison where Paddy smashes Raymond the Bastards girlfriend with a tray is very funny, well I think it is.Horses for courses I suppose. Loved Phoenix Nights, didn't like Max and Paddy. Quite like Kay's stand up.
