Burnley (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

Watching that performance today just makes those defeats to Palace and Leicester at Christmas all the more annoying. We were without half of our strongest XI at kick off (Benji, Dave, Leroy, Raheem, Kun and Eric), yet we walked through that game this afternoon at no more than, what, 70% of our potential. Just how the fuck did we lose those two games, moreso considering we scored first in both of them?
Typicalcityitis outbreak I'm told.

I reckon we were a bit unlucky against Palace and we were in a bit of a hole psychologically against Leicester. In fact by the time we played Leicester it felt like we'd had a 5 game spell or something where the stars were aligning to fuck us over. Our midfield were all injured or just back from injury too and certain others had just lost a bit of form. No excuses for either game but it's just when we found ourselves caught in a tight affair we were just lacking that something to get us ahead mentally.

The opponents had their part to play in that result but a solid professional display, playing within ourselves knowing we can easily step up if needs be. Couldn't ask for more than that out of today's game.

Jesus looked very sharp first 30 minutes, great goal from him despite the suspect keeping, needs to do that more often.

Mahrez looked better on the left side, his refusal to use his right foot doesn't slow the game down anywhere near as much when hes on the left, still didn't do enough for me but an improvement over recent performances. Bernardo on the other side showed how you can play out wide in thus side without having blistering pace.

Kev looked sharper, still some way off his best but he's only going to get there by playing now.

Walker had another slightly shaky performance, the guy needs to lose the arrogance and get back to concentrating 100% at all times, danilo on the other flank was good again. Peps got a bit of a dilemma now for the Arsenal game, the position is currently Danilo's but he hasn't played in a game where he's required to actually defend and we've seen previously hes very much a right back on the wrong side when asked to defend, there's also an argument for him to be playing on the right ahead of Walker. Delph hasn't played there for a while and Mendy isn't fully fit yet so interesting to see who plays there against Newcastle.

Bit of a stroll really. Their keeper did 3 or 4 excellent saves that kept it down to 5 but I guess he should have saved one or two of the five and they really should have equalised after our defensive blunder. Overall 5-0 was a fair reflection of the game. Best of the bunch was KDBs shot that nearly ripped a hole in the net.

Great win and City are in a rich vein of form at the moment

KDB back in the groove, just in time for the business end of the season. The only negative for me is Otamendi who is too sloppy and error prone, but Pep will play Laporte and Stones or Vinny in the big games.

Will you lot please spare a thought for our great servant, who has been forced to retire due to injuries suffered in today's game....

Straight red card in my book.
Walker gave a complete lack of disregard for Flaggy’s ankles flying in like that!
I’m surprised Sky are not all over this tbh

PEP Eight games winning in a row and this month is good. Everybody has played and we want to arrive in the last stages of the FA Cup, Champions League and fight to the end. It’s the only way I understand.

Love it when he says stuff like this, love it!!!

Another frightening show of our strength in depth today. Some fantastic play, Kev looking well oiled, Gundog excellent, Mahrez came onto a game in the second half after a quietish first half, and a wonderful goal from Jesus.

Roll on to Newcastle...

I actually thought we were flagging there at the beginning...

I presume he’s talking about united here.
