Burnley (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

I know this really doesn’t matter but when the Burnley defender Long pulls Silva and gives away a penalty I don’t understand why he wasn’t sent off because you could pretty much put your house on it that if had been a City defender he would of been sent off and a one game ban.
Rule change: It’s not a red card for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity anymore because the goal scoring opportunity is retained with the penalty kick.

Not so mate, a deliberate foul in the penalty box is still a sending off mate. I know he didn’t send him off but almost certainly he would of sent a City player off.

However, players committing accidental fouls that deny a goalscoring chance will now be cautioned instead.

But deliberate fouls will still incur a red card.

Those include holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball in order to deny a goalscoring opportunity.

And given that he made no effort to play the ball there was a strong argument that under the new law he should have seen red
