I think the ref bottled it, with regards Mustafi pulling back Sergio. We were 1-0 up, and only few minutes in to the game. He knew that giving the penalty, would result in Mustafi being sent off, but “bottled it” as it was to early in the game.

Watching it back again now, I don't think he was properly even looking at Mustafi and Aguero, it looks like he's still looking at where the ball is going, which is poor on his part. Having said that, he was looking directly at the Keita challenge in the Liverpool Leicester game too and didn't give that either, so maybe that wouldn't have made any difference at all...

Which is either incompetence or corruption (though, some would argue corruption is always a form of incompetence).

And the media aren’t highlighting it at all.

There would be blanket coverage and an entire in-depth review and analysis segment on MOTD if the same thing had happened to any Liverpool player.

The exact same ref didn't give a penalty that he was even closer to and looking directly at in their game and it generated the same amount of discussion on MOTD, which was them replaying the tackle and the pundits saying "it should have been given".

To be fair, if he was, it was imperceptible by the naked eye, and thus the linesman was, as is so often the case, guessing.

Which should never happen given the laws of the game indicate there should be no guessing and the benefit of the doubt should go to the attacker.

No, I'm saying that you've had the exact scenario you're saying played out just in the last week and MOTD gave them both equal time and criticism.

I don't think that offside is particularly close for a linesman to call from a freekick either to be honest, if you look at the difference in distance between them and the 18 yard line. From the linesmans angle, he'll see him as offside fairly comfortably
 
Just to add though, that's two decisions that Atkinson has got wrong in consecutive games this week that I don't think are really open to interpretation at all. Will he get shifted down the divisions for a few weeks as a consequence as is supposed to happen? I somehow doubt it, which is where my issue with Pgmol is

Looking at that angle I still think he’s level nico is off which is obviously why the lino flagged I can live with that but the Aguero pen was a fucking joke he bottled it big time because we had only just scored and it would have been game over

I would be fine with that regulation - it's very black and white, and doesn't require interpretation.

Are you just looking straight at it rather than relative to the 18 yard line? As that pic is pretty clear that he's just offside.

Agree about the penalty though, think that would have made them drop like they did after the second goal

Bizarre given that Arsenal managed two attempts on goal in the entire game...one of the worst performances we have seen from opponents all season.
