FA Cup 5th Round Draw 2019 - Newport (a)

This is quality. We need to change our philosophy for Newport more than any other game this season?

If it's open season on crazy ideas and our players can't match up to Newport and the free transfer market is still open, I'd suggest this

Burridge
Edghill
Morrison
Dunne
Thatcher
De Jong
Horlock
Pollock
Crooks
Bellamy
Dickov
The pitch will be a bog. Great for pass and move. NOT!

In my travels up and down the land I haven’t encountered many less inspiring places than Newport, Gwent.

It looks better than Stoke (from the train) mate and I bet the recent cup runs have done good things for the town. I wasn’t planning on going to the game but the closer it gets, the more I’m thinking of changing my mind.

You can't have been to Middlesbrough then?
Of course I have, was there last August and am scheduled to revisit next month. Funnily enough, I was thinking of Boro when I posted that, which I’d say is marginally worse than Newport tbf. Both surrounded by magnificent countryside tbf - and Middlesbrough has some of the most beautiful villages in the land on its doorstep too. Some serious dough in North Yorkshire. Both fairly depressing towns though.

I used to live in Newport for a number of years and without doubt it is one of the ugliest towns in the country -definitely up there with Stoke and Middlesbrough.

That being said I loved every minute of my time living in the ‘Port - great people and I made many good friends.

Back in the day I used to go and watch Newport AFC now and again (before the name change back to County) but when they played in the Beazer Homes Midland Division, playing at Spytty Park (hence the name of their team mascot Spytty The Dog).

Despite the presence of the rugby teams I would say it is definitely a football town although as you might expect is over-run mainly with bin dippers, as well as united and other cockney teams. There are however a small number of match-going Blues in the Port who regularly travel up to Manchester.

Currently living in Newport, and you are correct, beautiful countryside right on my doorstep in fact. Whilst I agree that the city centre is pretty awful, the west side of Newport where I live has some very nice areas. I can literally walk into the countryside from where I am. Only pain is the 3.5/4 hour drive back ‘home’ for every home game. The stadium is about 5 miles.

Anyone thinking of staying over I suggest choosing your digs carefully. There are a couple of B&Bs on Chepstow Road that I ended up in after booking online. I've seen cleaner dog Kennels. I can't remember the name of them though. Newport isn't the best place but there's a few decent pubs there and the locals are friendly enough.

Yeah would not recommend accommodation in or near the centre. Pub wise try Tiny Rebel.

Try Ashton for one although there are many more... a lot of city and town centres the same these days, and will get worse as retail continues to be decimated ( but that’s for off topic :))
I quite enjoy going to Ashton.....Ikea, Sainsburys, retail parks and The Etihad not too far
