New breed of away fan

Yep, people defending the behaviour as boisterous behaviour would be the first to kick off if this happened in their local on a Friday night. Not sure they’d be quiet as tolerant if out with his wife and 30 city fans come in dancing on tables, chanting songs, call his wife a minger and chucking lager around.
I went to the game with my wife and daughter. A couple of blues thought it would be humorous to have a go at them because they didn’t think women should be at games. This has happened before to my two daughters.
At Basel last year we were in the main City pub. She went to the ladies toilet which was full of lads who told her to ‘fuck off’, they were in there taking drugs.
At Newport there was an older fella and his lad giving shit to everyone around for not singing, they were just load mouthed bullies.
Everton, three lads in the toilet cubicle, I can only imagine why?
At Burnley last year I said something about one of our players and the bloke (40s) in front turned round and was incredibly abusive, it was astounding.

The behaviour in the old days was poor but usually aimed at the opposition fans.
Now it seems to be aimed at our own and the weaker you are the bigger the target.

That’s why we continually get posts like the earlier one such as ‘boring old farts’ for disliking behaviour that is unacceptable, and for not condoning law breaking and for wanting to enjoy a football game without beer thrown over them or arguments for nothing.
The poor behaviour is not consigned to one particular age group, it’s confined to a group called ‘dick heads’.

May be it is time for me to give up....

“Big games and city fans scrapping with each other goes hand in hand “

Not condoning it at all, obviously, but I've seen/heard of blue on blue at plenty of cup semi's/finals/big games and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Liverpool away this season I saw a scrap because someone nicked someone else's pint!

Some of the people complaining about the younger fans didn’t go to many away games before making European away Day their main hobby.
I’ve been going to away games since the early 70s but unfortunately I’m a glory hunter where Europe is concerned as have only been going since Copenhagen in 2009.

Observation

Well my first away game was Leeds away late 70s that was intimidating.

I know it’s not the young exclusively it tends to be those snorting gear at the match a relatively recent ( last 10 or so years) and getting more common.

I don’t have a problem with it in the bars clubs but at the game it seems to make them behave in an aggressive manner towards fellow blues which isn’t good

Btw Note to the young , we all get older eventually.

My first away was Leeds in the Cup in Jan 78. I was too young to be scared but I’ve been anxious at the odd game since.

I think we need to get back to ID checks for Champs League matches outside Britain

Its not ok, but hardly a massive issue.
Whilst it’s not on the same plane as getting a good kicking, I disagree, as it is a big issue to the person who gets unwanted beer all of them.
And do it to the wrong person and it may well lead to the aforementioned kicking. Sometimes a bit of boisterous fun can get out of hand.

I was at both WBA in Nov 87, and Gelsenkirchen on Wednesday night.

I can still remember walking back to the car at West Brom whilst observing the Guvnors in full flow, just 50 yards in front of us.
The big difference is that I never felt threatened by the hooligans who supported my team.
I don't feel like that anymore, especially if I say something like "Gundogan's been playing better than Silva recently" to the wrong person, (who instead of arguing constructively, will probably call me a wanker).
Fuck me, if you thought Gundogan was better than Silva on Wednesday night then I’m not surprised if people got wound up! ;-)

I enjoy the singing the rowdiness the banter and raised adrenaline of away games. If you go away lower your expectations on a lot of things in life.
HOWEVER - There is a huge change since the late 80's when i started going. I fxcking detest our own City fans picking on other City fans, bullying, intimidating other blues. No need for it. In the older days these lads would protect you / have your back. One for all and all for one / brothers all together. Bullshit to have a go at ANY of our fans if they have done nothing wrong.
I would have a whip wound and get some of the old boys onto an away trip and slap down some of these dickheads. Men that could handle themselves and take on 5 of these lads for fun. Blues together.

Whilst there are obviously dick heads they’re not a patch on what used to happen.

Those moaning about the younger fans probably fought outside Maine Road every other week.

I can't find the Dislike button.

You get the same on the train to the races. People drink beer and (or) snort a key or two of cocaine. The odds are in a large group a small minority will behave like twats. Has always been the case and will always be the case.

Because some people are just twats in everything they do. They are little twats as kids, bigger twats as adults and die being remembered as a twat. I don’t think age has anything to do with it. We have older guys in my local like this. Complete gob shites who love the sound of their own voice.

I do find all this social media bouncing around throwing beer strange though and that is a younger generation thing. The need for constant validation.

I was thinking the same thing.
We were next to the home fans, and there was a moment (just after Schalke had equalized) when a full pint came flying over our heads, and hit an unsuspecting home fan on the back of his head.
Everyone laughed, but I remember wondering how they'd feel if the Schalke fan filled the plastic container and threw it back.
Would everyone laugh if it hit a young kid?
