Football Leaks/Der Spiegel articles

We’re in trouble I fear. Along with potentially many others. The FFP rules were crafted to maintain the old cartel and that forced clubs like us to bend the rules. They needed breaking and they need to go but if people at the club were dumb enough to put all this in unencrypted emails then my guess is a transfer ban and squad size penalties are on the way.

In this day and age for the club and the wider business not to be using encryption is pretty dumb.
Not necessarily so.
Tax matters in UK leave many loopholes that are exploited by savvy accountants. Certainly not illegal.
FFP rules have similar areas that have allowed them to have ways round their purpose. Again not illegal.
Not saying we did not flout rules and if we did so be it, but finding ways to conform that still allow extra investment can never be seen as illegal surely?

That Nick Harris chappie either genuinely believes what he says, doesn't think there's anything to disprove it, or is playing semantics. I suspect the third.

I think he's on safe ground when arguing that FFP was not targeted at City/PSG - they were happy collateral collected up in the regs to rein in New Money Clubs. Where 'happy collateral' may mean 'examples of intended targets'. I think he's arguing the semantics that it was designed for two clubs, rather than a broad group which just oh-so-coincidentally includes those clubs.

He's got a real bee in his bonnet with PB though, who has apparently brainwashed loads of people.
I suppose blaming PB rather than RS is a step forward though?

Last week the DM online football page led with the story that City could be banned from the Champions League following more Der Spiegel allegations. Today there's no mention of the arrest and extradition of Rui Pinto who is accused of extortion, illegally obtaining documention by hacking emails and hacking two accounts in the Cayman Islands which purely coincidentally resulted in 268,000 Euros ending up in his bank account. Or that the Spanish and French police, as well as the Portuguese, also want him extradited to them. I'm sure it's just an oversight.

I may be wrong, but have we not already been punished for all we’ve been accused of, except the Sancho agent/scout accusation?

Cayman Islands you say? Hmmmmm....

Fixed that for you mate. If anyone is doing any brainwashing it's that wanker Harris. He proves just how easy it is to get so many lemmings swallowing his bullshit when you give clueless wankers a platform to spout their shite on social media. To date, I've never seen that whopper go into all the intricacies of the actual regs whereas PB does, yet the wanker claims to be some kind of expert on the subject. Plenty of City fans have a bigger understanding of FFP than that c*nt ever will.

Hey, they managed 144 words on the extradition yesterday, buried in the news pages. Are you trying to say the Mail is less than even-handed? I am shocked.

I think much of the noise is claims that we weren't honest with UEFA about what happened, and not that there have been further breaches.

No, no, no, can't be. Harris is clearly a balanced and reasonable hack with no axe to grind here. PB is really a puppet master with designs on world domination.

Yes, but didn’t they find us guilty of such ‘dishonesty’? And punish us?

We got punished for breaching FFP, and they didn't much like (understand) the image rights sale. I'm not aware of guilt of dishonesty, but others may be able to confirm if this happened.

I think the current noise is claims that City weren't honest, misrepresented income stream sources, and hid ADUG funding - essentially that they subverted rules and/or lied to UEFA. Some of it seems to have merit, but is probably not anything that UEFA can take action on (e.g. ADUG underwriting/funding sponsorship through a third part like Eithad or Eibar - that strikes me as being against the spirit of the FFP rules, but may not be in breach of them).

Just my opinion though - I've been wrong before, and will be wrong again.

It was up to uefa to go through our books and find faults like they do now with all clubs its not up to city to tell them?! They went through our books at the time and saw that we didnt pass ffp and fined us that should be the end of That!

That’s how I see it, mega company uses exploitation of loop holes to comply with fraduelent rules. Hardly unique

I find Harris almost impossible to take seriously. He tweets in the manner of a man who's simultaneously soiling himself with glee whenever he gets the chance to say anything negative about City, and it's hardly a professional look.

He also loses the plot whenever anyone with knowledge and a different opinion tries to engage him in debate. It's irritating when he bangs on in the way he does and he's not half as clever as he likes to think he is, but I just try to ignore him.

Yeah, there were a couple of things we did that weren't particularly palatable such as the image rights thing, but on the flip side these were newly introduced rules and we were in a race against time to comply with them during that initial 3 year monitoring period (UEFA themselves made great play that first time offenders weren't going to be punished too harshly and it was a learning curve for everyone). Not to mention that UEFA shifted the goalposts right near the end of the monitoring period which made compliance pretty much impossible. This when we had been in detailed dialogue with UEFA throughout, so we had every right to be aggrieved as changing the rules during the process was bang out of order. I'm not saying we're perfect by any means but personally I think UEFA are far more guilty of cheating (probably under duress from some of the cartel clubs) than City have been, and you only have to see the post by @Parisian a few pages back to see that they're still moving the goalposts in respect of PSG's sponsorship deal with the QTA by repeatedly down-valuing it from what they initially deemed an acceptable figure.

It's a fucking shit show with UEFA showing little backbone and allowing themselves to be dictated to over their own rules, and it seems that those who cry foul loudest - Tebas for one - keep getting their own way. That racist fuckwit shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a top job in football and I hope his next shit is a fucking hedgehog.

True enough Peter and he's probably done me a favour by blocking me.

I agree - @Parisian's been interesting and informative to read.
