FA Cup Semi Final draw - Brighton

And the latter then prices out fans who have been the lifeblood of the club in lean years so when the chance to go to Wembley comes along, they feel disconnected. 6/7 pints in the pub is more appealing because thats what they do every week now as virtually every game we play is on TV. The take up from non ST holders has been extremely low and this should be something that worries the club. With an aging fanbase, clubs need to have as many people engaged as possible and the only way they can do this is by ensuring games are priced so that many and not few can attend. My sister asked about Spurs CL for her and her husband and 8 year old. - I said it would cost her close on £140. Needless to say she declined!

As Wembley revenues are shared I believe, I can’t see the club being bothered. Im not saying it’s just our club that’s greedy. All clubs are especially at the top. The FA are too.
Don't disagree with that, considering the bulk of revenues come from non-ticketing revenues makes sense to keep ticket prices low to enable maximum number of people (especially young people with lower disposable income) to attend.

However, the incentives in football are a bit contrary to that from top to bottom.

I wish though that someone at the club runs some numbers and figures out lower prices x higher attendances = same revenues (especially with the benefit of more food / drink sales)

I won't know till Friday if I can make the game or not, 50/50 odds at mo so obviously not purchased a ticket so I could be on the hunt for a ticket on Friday, when does the club stop selling them? And guessing I wouldn't be able to pick one up from city ticket office!!

City's matchday revenues are lower than our rivals.
So we have four options.
- spend less on wages and transfer fees
- have the owner subsidise us (cheating as per FFP)
- Try to compensate with higher commercial revenues which is both difficult. .. and still brings allegations of cheating
- Try to maximise ticket revenues.
Our commercial income is the second highest in the PL.
We get CL revenue, which two of the top 6 clubs don’t.

The problem is that we still have a relatively limited fan base & it will take 20 years to to make serious inroads into the sort of numbers enjoyed by Liverpool & Inited, plus we’re not in London. We also have a high percentage of season tickets compared to our overall capacity which is great in many ways but it leaves less opportunity for the casual fan to get a ticket. And those casual fans are the most likely to become ST holders in the future. We also have a lot of cheaper, sub-£500 season tickets and that can be seen as a double-edged sword.

But the main problem I suspect lies with hospitality. I believe that at Old Trafford these account for 60% of their match day revenue but I reckon that it’s maybe 45% for us. Getting hospitality up to the same ratio as them could increase match day revenue by something like £15m.

Probably boils down to someone being targeted to achieve revenue growth of X% and receiving bonus on the back of it.

The banks were making hay doing this pre PPI and Mis selling. Short term gain without thinking of long term consequences.

Sadly the people that make decisions like this then see the shit hit the fan 15 years later and tell anyone who wants to listen how it wouldn’t have happened on their watch. They just don’t see the long term problem. When you incentivise someone you take away that persons logic and replace it with greed.

At the end of the year, Revenue Director says “we increased match day revenue by 10% last year”. Powers that be say “great - Have a bonus. Do you think you can do that again next year” etc etc etc.

They don’t say “but actually that was at the cost of 500 fans who have been ST holders for 25 years giving up their seats or 2000 leaving the cup schemes”

Clubs take fans for granted.

I have a Birthday this week. A big one. I have been bombarded with free offers of meals/drinks/hotel discounts/ this that and the other from restaurants/shops/holiday companies/bars who have my details and whom I use on a fairly regular basis. There is one notable organisation missing from this list of thank you’s despite me using them for 40 years!!!

I rang the ticket office today to confirm delivery address for my tickets. Was told I could collect from Wembley if they got sent to the wrong place, so I presume that option is available for late purchasers.

Our fan base would have expanded if Season ticket prices were not raised every year .many thousands of fans in the last 10 years have not renewed
if match day tickets were not so expensive less people would not have got in the habit of watching the games in a pub instead of going to the game .Ticket prices are the key to expanding the fan base. The club spend so much energy on the corperate side but just continue to increase ticket prices year on year

I though the churn rate was very low. 1 to 2% max. I've been waiting to buy back a lapsed season card and buy another and so far been unable to do so.

Furthermore we're at capacity for seasoncards, and at capacity for the ground so how do we expand the fan base? We can't at the moment. We are stuck.

I don't think the limited sales for Wembley show that our fan base is smaller than Liverpool and Man Utd but we knew that anyway. It's not surprising given that we have been to the Community Shield and League Cup Final already and the triple whammy is the KO time.

It wont be lower than the Arsenal v City Community Shield. We got beat 3-0 that day, and it was a totally humiliation. Half empty City end and a team that was even less bothered than the fans.
thats cos its a glorified friendly

you mean a pre season friendly? and if you look at the sales its wont be far off that

Looking at the blocks that are left we have probably sold about 27000 seats. But I wished we had sold none and f***** the FA off all semi's should be played at neutral grounds. It's getting expensive to support the Blue's these days.
Not trying to scaremonger but when I bought one earlier it looked like we’d sold half that.

A neutral ground (under the old system) for a match between Brighton and City would logically be somewhere in London (Emirates?). The match between Watford and Wolves would probably have been at Villa Park.

There really are a shed load of seats available with less than a week to go.

What annoys me is that I bought them when they went on sale to citizens and I could only buy one- but I’d have gone and bought my kid and wife one too. I had to get a mate to get me one and booked them next to each other to take the kid.

They should have just allowed up to 4 each for citizens from the get go.

It’s gonna be a bollocks atmosphere if it’s only 1/3 full of blues. Caribou was full but like a library for most of the second half and ET.

The vast majority of games we have empty seats, many of those are season tickets holders who don't go anymore, some of those try to resell the tickets either through the club or various City face book sites, many go unsold because we don't have a big enough fan base wanting them. Big problem is the thousands of fans disillusioned weather they been moved from there seat to make way for hospitality or simply priced out, also the pricing for some games is just barmy. You correct though hardly suprising we not sold out Wembley with the amount of times we have been plus all the games we have played .Respect to the fans that have made most of the games
