City's New Kits - 2019/20

I have a family coat of arms that is unique to my family name.
Does it look like this?

Dont agree. Just a modern take on something that is centuries old. A logo is some crap american advertising scheme where 3 year olds know what McDonalds is.
A crest is something that represents history, and tells a story, it is not put out to the world as an advert. And it is a big deal to City fans.

Indeed. Starbucks has a logo, we have a crest. As an English football club we should hold on to our traditions whilst still competing in an ever increasing world market. It will make us stand out. We are, after all, supposed to be a club with values.

So, did we settle on the “crest” now being a part of the “global branding” of City Football Group, or are we still pining for the days of yore, when shit football and Umbro diamonds down a knitted polyester shirt were synonymous with Manchester City?

Lest anyone be in any doubt, the goal is to co-opt the word “City” do that when anyone anywhere in the world says the word “City” with respect to football, you think of Manchester City (or your local CFG team) in most places in the world, or simply CFG in the others.

Even commentators who hate us have given us the sole title of “City” for the most part, and only seem to self correct when we are playing against, or being referenced or compared to another club, such as Leicester. However, even then, it is widely known and accepted that City is Manchester City and Leicester City is just Leicester. Much as United only makes one think of Stretford United, I think we have reached global “just City” status with our recent success and Pep as manager.

Purple patches on the shoulders and the yellow/orange third kit is similar to the sunset Barcelona third kit from a few years ago.

I mean, I'm not invested enough in this argument to continue it. But logos don't only apply to companies. It's a visual representation of a person, group, team, etc. So you're splitting nits.

Where’s that a from, mate?

There’s an image of an official Puma City home ball and it’s blue, white, navy and purple. This would fit in with that. Any other details on the home?

Friend of a friend, and I don't want to get him in trouble so won't be any more specific than that. Second hand info, so grain of salt and all that, but I'm reasonably sure.

new kits are always exciting to wait for, can't wait, but.......

Who does the designing? is it rep's from the club and puma makes it? or puma puts forth designs and a club rep signs off on it?
just curious, i'm sure either way they will be fine.

OK, here's the thing, as long as the person who designed our new crest doesn't have a say, it's horrible. no foresight.
Why, you ask? well it doesn't say "Football Club" or "F.C."
I live in North America and people see the logo and just think it's travel souvenirs from the UK, just Manchester in general, and i have to explain it's a "soccer" team from Manchester, and I'd get...
"oh!, i would never have gotten that, it should say so, so like Manchester United?"
the idea is to foster growth abroad but our new logo just flies under the radar. it's a total non football related logo here. shame, we should have just kept the old round one before the eagle.
If you have to explain that it's a football team, you're talking to the wrong people.
utd crest doesn't say football either

We don’t need FC or Football Club on the badge. We have a Women’s team and youth teams, disabled teams etc. If we all have the same badge we don’t have to worry about one being FC and another being WFC...

Plus it already has a load of facets to it, don’t need anymore jumbling it up. The more minimal and cleaner the better.

And who gives a fuck what some no marks from thousands of miles away from where it matters think? The club have spent far too long pandering to these twats and ignoring or pricing out our local fans which is why we had a situation like Saturday where we can’t sell out an FA Cup semi. They’ve spent far too much time effort and money on getting some nobody from Manhattan, Melbourne or Macau to become a “Cityzen” and forgotten we are the club of Manchester.

I absolutely agree with this. I know we need to expand our fanbase if we are to be a power in world football, but we definitely need to do more at home. I miss the days when we'd have a pre-season game at the Etihad against Barca, Valencia etc. never at home anymore for pre-season, always abroad doing self-promotion to people who won't really have a massive impact on us anyway. No offence to anyone outside of Manchester. if you've been recruited as the result of a pre-season tour then great, but I just wish they'd just think of us on the estate at home more.

and regarding the badge, having FC on there is not necessary at all. the Eagle one had FC, but it didn't say Manchester on it anywhere. The current one is a good modern take on the old one. I love it, a proper city badge.

to keep on topic, I can't wait to see the puma kits. I probably won't buy it, but as long as its sky blue it will look alright to me. I'd like white shorts, and navy/maroon trimmed socks but not getting my hopes up. its Puma, not Umbro (the only brand that actually cared about us).

Talking of Umbro have you seen the side of the Hare and Hounds pub in Town this week?
