Looking for Joan of Arc's melted Walkman
I’ve been an avid music listener aged 63 mainly liking punk , 70s prog-rock, indie and a bit of everything except country.
I have have some superb music players of numerous guises coupled to high end headphones and in ear monitors.
However, I have suddenly hit a road block, nothing excites me musically at the moment.
I can only listen to so much Floyd, Purple, Sabbath etc along with Steve Wilson. Pistols, Steve Mason et al. Suggestions please to get my music mojo back please.Any new bands that meet the criteria ?

Classical

Why don’t you try see how you are without listening to music for a while - your mind will feel clearer

Headphones and in ear?

Speakers and loud with it

Then put Gilmour at Pompeii doing Comfortably Numb on.

Then sit back and wallow in the magnificence.

Or as others have said, pick a tune on YouTube and then follow the trail.

Or get into country. It's not that bad.

I am 61 and know where you are coming from. I still listen to Punk, Floyd, and 60's 70's folk. There is though an incredible amount of good music out there which you may like. off the top of my head try these...

Am on a few football and music forums and most have a what are you listening to / track of the day thread.
Occasionally i pick up a copy of uncut/mojo but i find myself listening to same old stuff really.

You dodering old cunts! :-D

Seriously though, that sucks op. Some shit hot people on here with music. They have collectively got me into proper rock such as the likes you have listened to a million times and more. Hopefully you get some good suggestions that give you a smile from another genre maybe.

Pointless posts of other people’s Taste won’t help.

Use Spotify to listen to weekly compendiums or trawl through genres to see if anything floats your boat.

use a streaming service (i like googles tbh) and use it so that it gets to learn what you like. You can use the radio function to auto suggest music based on your fav artists which then picks out others of that ilk which you may like (it is a fancy way of doing last FM).

or put on some fish era marillion....

You don't have to keep listening to new bands, despite how much the world says you have to.

But I'll give it a go. You mentioning Pink Floyd and Steven Wilson makes me think you'd be a fan of prog and psychedelic rock, so maybe you'd be into bits and pieces of Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and The Mars Volta (though The Mars Volta are more of an arty punk band with prog influences). I also think you'd be into acts like Joanna Newsom, Richard Dawson, and Timber Timbre.

There aren't many "classic rock" bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple around at the moment (times move on) but I guess Queens of the Stone Age are about the closest you'll get stylistically in terms of popular 21st century bands. There's a Swedish group called Ghost who might tickle your fancy as well, and Pallbearer might have something for you.

Another thing I would suggest is going back to bands you might have missed from the 60s and 70s that could turn you on to more modern interpretations of old sounds. Whoever knew that Big Star would end up influencing songs like this, or songs like this? You see what I mean. Good luck on your journey!

Why are you so negative? The OP stated: “ Suggestions please to get my music mojo back please.Any new bands that meet the criteria ?”
