Next season it’s time to admit

Literally saying "we are above winning the league and FA cups" is very arrogant, IMO.

I personally feel the league cup should be scrapped anyway, it is odd to have 2 domestics cup competitions, and far too much football going on. But while we're in it, we have to play strong sides and win it.

No it's not. It's saying that if our manager has to rest players in hte bigger competition becausey play a League Cup or FA Cup game a few days earlier then something is wrong. It's not arrogant, we tried.

We don't have to play strong sides, it's a choice. We have a huge squad, many of which would benefit greatly by playing in these competitions.

Besides, a team with the likes of Foden, Jesus, Garcia, Muric with sprinklings of Mahrez, Delph etc would do well with the right draws. It's not throwing away, it's prioritizing and there's nowt wrong with that.

You can get beat in latter the stages of the Champions League with a fully fit and rested team because the sides you play against are, or can be, very good.

We've had, and are having, an extraordinarily good go at the league, but it still might not be enough. That's because another team has also performed above expectations.

We have already won the League Cup and have a chance of the FA Cup. It's quite possible that if we had followed the advice of the OP, we'd be out of both domestic cups, still out of Champions League with the scousers still on our coat tails in the league. In other words, a season without silverware (Community Shield excluded).

When you pick and choose, don't be surprised if you end up with fuck all.

Gundogen, when playing the holding role, is great offensively but doesn't offer enough defensively. To blame our defenders (Laporte in particular) I believe is unfair. We become too exposed, pressure builds, and the mistakes follow.

We've coped ok this season but in a huge game our weakness cost us.

In the first leg we went with both Fernandinho and Gundogen both sitting deep. Really it should be one as we had to sacrifice a forward player but Pep felt the need to do this in a big game because one on their own wasn't enough.

It's vital we get this position sorted in the summer. For me it caught up with us in both legs of this tie. Even had we scraped through Ajax would expose this.

Totally agree with this, IF we win the FA cup this year that'll be good enough for me to play the kids in it next year, of course we want to win everything but realistically it's not going to happen when competing on all fronts.

Remove the pointless international breaks and the fixtures could be spread out and perhaps allow for a short winter break. Quad although still tough obviously would be more realistic.
The international fixtures are only pointless from a selfish club point of view. How many of Silva, Kompany, Yaya, Agüero, Fernandinho, Zabaleta, De Bruyne, Jesus and Tevez do you think would have signed for us had we put a clause in their contracts that stated no international football.

International football isn’t going to vanish because it disrupts the domestic season every month or so and some club fans don’t like it anymore.

We could do that and still not win the Premier League or Champions League and most likely be out of both domestic competitions.

Disagree personally, love winning the cups, we’ve made days at Wembley normal which shows how far we’ve come as a club. CL obviously ultimate dream but we’ll get there someday I’m sure of it. All about the journey!

I’m pretty sure the owners, the manager and every single player would rather win the Champions League though.
And I'm pretty sure the players would rather win the World Cup, but I couldn't care less about it.

That the quadruple isn’t going to happen and play reserves and youth players in the two domestic cups. It’s been a heck of a ride and something the club can be extremely proud of.

But we cannot put ourselves in a position again where we play a full strength team in the FA Cup one day and have to rest players a few days later in a CL quarter final.

I know how some will react to this post, especially those that dislike the CL. But when domestic cups become detrimental to success in bigger competitions then something has to give.
We could quite easily have won at SPurs or taken a draw that day, and we could quite easily have won last night

I agree we lost because our resources were weakened but I would 100% prefer to go for everything and be proud in my team

I think Pep will do this once he's added the FA Cup to his CV, which will hopefully be this time next month.

I don't think the quadruple is impossible, it nearly is, almost the hardest task in football to win.

For a minute after Sterling's goal, the disallowed winner I thought yep we are going to pull this quadruple off, what can stop us after this.....then I got my answer right between the eyes from VAR.

Pep won't ever sacrifice competitions, it's not who he is. He will aim again next season for the quadruple and off we will go again.

Fair enough, but the point stands about the impact of internationals on the domestic fixture list. If / when this euro super league idea gets going something will presumably have to give anyway.

The point doesn't stand. You are suggesting eliminating international football from the calendar, that is nonsense.

Given the size and quality of our squad, we need a lot of games to keep everyone happy.

Throw your hand in early on the domestic cups and you’ve got a lot of players sat around getting frustrated and losing sharpness.

I think we’ve coped pretty well with the number of games, the squad is fairly fresh.

The reason we are out of the CL is down to poor decisions from Pep in the 1st leg and individual errors in the 2nd leg.
