Harry Maguire

I suspect what's putting off lots of posters is the overvalued fee we would have to pay for him, and the fact De Ligt is on the market, a superior defender in just about every department. It's hard to settle for a lesser standard when we want to be the best in Europe.

Not sure where this idea that Maguire can't play football under pressure is coming from. Maybe it's because he has the tendency to look a little clumsy because of his build. Or because he was a big threat from set pieces at the World Cup.

He's literally a ball playing CB who is comfortable in breaking the opposition lines. It's highly likely that's why Pep is drawn to him.
I'm basing on having seen him play since he was about 18. He's great at running with the ball, he can pass a ball if he has all the time in the world, but pressure him and you'll have a great time, particularly if you get on his first touch.

This is true but ignores the homegrown and club trained quotas. We will need to have usable English talent and at the level we aspire to play at there’s just a remarkably few players who can honestly play for us if needed. Those who do will always cost a premium.

The bigger question on this is from the perspective of these players. If we really are in for 2 CBs both Stones and Maguire could find themselves on the outside looking in on the starting XI.

Looked fine against us and we are a better pressing team than 99% of teams he'd play in our backline.

He's good on the ball but he's also one of those defenders with a mistake in him on or off the ball every week. We already have Walker and people say it of Stones(not sure I agree), so we can't be taking any more players with that trait, especially for the asking price.

Do we need to buy home grown for the quota or something?

Is the criteria for homegrown/club trained player changing in the near future, to effect our transfer policy?

We are losing VK and possibly Ota, both foreign, why would we prefer Maguire to De Ligt if we aren't being forced by quota changes?

Are we suppose to take the source Superbia Proelia serious? 90m? Haha. Sure, let's pay 15m more than Liverpool did for Van Dijk, for a defender not even half as good.
I still believe Maguire to City is strictly made up by the media. I don't think we will buy him.

Apparently it's Martin Blackburn who says £90 mill.. Ridiculous.. We could buy De Ligt and afford his monster wages for a couple of years for those money!

We deserve all the abuse we get if we sign him for anything more than £50m and I still think that's a bit too steep.

I rate a Maguire, but there's got to be a point that you step away and look at other options. I think he's prodominantly being looked as a HG option, with Delph leaving (yes, I know we don't need to sign them).
