The Conservative Party

She went to the country after being chosen as Tory leader and got most votes so your argument doesn't stack up.

Most votes don't win elections, seats do.

May chose to go in to that election, she went in with a majority government, she emerged as the single largest party, she's been in coalition with the DUP ever since, this confidence-and-supply support bollocks is a tongue teaser for the feeble minded.

Not denying any of that, but it isn't relevant to saying she was unelected as people are saying.

Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Ironically if she hadn't she might still be in the job using the majority she inherited to pass her WAB.

I predict a choice of:

Posh bastard Brexiteer
Posh bastard Brexiteer backed by Bannon
Posh bastard brexiteer with a highly punchable face
Scouse bastard brexiteer who thinks shes Thatcher
Please God not the scouse viper. The crap she came out with recently (a barely veiled pitch for the leadership) is completely at odds with her attitude and approach when she was at DWP.

We vote for a local constituency MP and party, no a PM or president.

Didn’t hear a peep from a labour supporter calling for an election when Brown took over.

I did want a GE when brown first came in as he wpould have won fresh from averting a foot n mouth crisis and it was pre crash

You're right.

But Prime Ministers need a sense of legitimacy, May was looking for that legitimacy, for a stonking personal endorsement in 2017! That's why she held the election, but she didn't get it.

She should have gone then, yet she remained.

She got no majority in parliament tbf, also I said 2nd as her pre election stint was unelected by the country and this will so I had factored in the GE which was left with a minority governmnet propped up by a bigoted dark ages party from Norn

She was pitching for the role when she said that. A hugely ambitious woman. I hope she doesn't get anywhere near it.

No, note surely at all.

My main worry is whoever is elected may manage to get Brexit through the house.

Of course there doesn’t have to be and as of the post you made I quoted, we elect a party based on MP’s but I do feel it’s a time to go to a GE.

A 2nd ref and then a GE is the only way to closing this in my opinion and without trying to sound like May, I do believe it’s in the national interest.

The Tories won’t call one if they’re polling low though I don’t think.

In your opinion she should have gone but democracy is about the sum of everyone's opinion, not just those that disagree, alongside the rules that are in place. From outside the Tories, there's next to nothing you can do. And even if you could, the alternative options were not very appealing (judging by the votes cast in the GE). From inside the Tories you can launch a challenge, but no-one did. Therefore her position was legitimate.

I'm no Tory by the way, voted Labour all my life (but won't next time).

Good post.

How would a general election help right now? I don't see huge support for Labour whilst Jezza is in charge, it will just be the same outcome as last time. If anyone can convince me otherwise then I am all for it, but it looks like a waste of time and money right now.

There won't be an election, it can only happen with a two thirds majority no confidence vote, which can overrule
the fixed parliament legislation, unless the Tory wets want to see Lenin in the hot seat it won't happen.
