Harry Maguire

I would have been very happy to see Utd sign him last summer, not that he's a crap player - he would have been an improvement on what they have, just not a 75m improvement. Starting to get the feeling it will happen so hope my reservations about him prove unfounded. Was unsure on Walker signing but think he's had heroic couple of seasons.

I fear for peoples sanity, shiny new toy gone mad when rationalising harry fucking maguire

That's a pretty lazy way of trying to discredit another view. Accusing people of wanting a shiny new toy would be the same as me accusing you of being too sentimental about our antique ones but I won't do that because to each their own.

Personally, I think (outside of Otamendi's 17/18 season) Maguire is a far more consistent defender. I'm not going to pretend Maguire is the second coming of Vinnie but I feel like Otamendi has been romanticised since our 100 point season and then barely playing throughout this one.

We've allowed Otta to walk around looking like an upside down garden gnome for years.
Fair enough but I sure as shit wouldn't be the one to tell him that.

Maguire on the other hand looks like an inbred country bumpkin waiting for his sister to go into heat so he can chase her around the farm and make her his wife.

One massive plus if we sign Maguire is that we won’t be such a pushover defending corners, and of course goes without saying we’d be more dangerous on our own corners too.

It was half playing on johnny fucking evans,of course i am sentimental to our oldies, why wouldn't you be? nico has not let us down when he has played.he slots in seamlessly which makes him better than anyone new
I think in the summer it's all about getting new players in that an honest assessment of them goes out of the window because they are new and shiny

A pushover at corners? In 2019 we have played 31 matches and have kept a clean sheet in 21 of them. In the other 10 matches played we have conceded 15 goals but none from corners in the FA cup, two in the PL, at the Etihad against Arsenal at the very beginning of February and at Brighton on the last day of the season, and one in the CL at home to Spurs, a goal which City fans are convinced should have been disallowed for handball. As our chairman has said, let's be judged on facts.

I don’t need stats mate, I have 2 eyes.

I really don't understand the hate for Maguire. Looks a good player to me.

It's not as through there is an abundance of of world class central defenders up for grabs.

It seems to me that people want a nineteen year old kid who has had a very good season in a shitty league or no one at all!

If you can't have De Ligt and you don't want Maguire then who do you want?

According to whoscored.com we conceded 23 goals last season, 10 from open play, 9 from set pieces and 4 pens.

Too fucking lazy to check accuracy.

Looks like we need Maguire.

Get the deal done.

How many goals did we concede from corners last season?
We can't rely on last season's stats.
Set pieces could be very different next season with VAR, remember the effects at the last World Cup. Lots of penalties for interfering/holding.

It might be very difficult to spot for the ref in real time with so much going on, but with a VAR panel and slow motion any transgressions will be highlighted and likely punished.

Exactly. If Deelite is a no go, Maguire is alot better than any of the other options I've heard.

Is this a reply to my post? Maybe if you read it more carefully you'd realise that it doesn't cover the whole season but deals with the 31 matches played in 2019. You might also notice that the 23 goals conceded which you mention are those conceded only in the league whereas the 15 conceded in 2019 were actually conceded in all 3 domestic competitions and whereas you talk about 9 goals conceded from set pieces I was dealing with an argument that City were a pushover at corners. As a final point I made no mention of Maguire or of City's need for him, so maybe if you weren't "so fucking lazy" at reading others' posts you might be able to write a decent one yourself. Otherwise leave it up to jimmy blue shoes who puts forward a perfectly relevant point very concisely.

Not a reply to your post, no. I've no idea why you think that. If you read my posts you'll know I'm lazy, which I admit to, so I really can't be arsed doing research to reply to others, I'll leave that to the lunatics on the Brexit and Trump threads. I just decided to look at set pieces as they have been mentioned on here.

I won't be doing it again as I've just had to waste two minutes replying to this.
