I don't know what to make of this, but SSN have just announced that the representatives of Fernandes are in the UK today looking for potential suitors. Sporting have all but accepted the player will leave, and it's reported that ManUre want to sign him and are favourites for his signature.

Now for the crazy bit! Apparently Fernandes signed a new 5 year deal last summer which has a £31m release clause in it! It's said that Sporting want £50m, but if they don't honour the release clause, they have to compensate Fernandes with £4.5m which they don't want to do!

At £31m and with Silva leaving next summer, surely he's worth a punt for us?
£31m is crazy value for his G&A numbers. Even if he flopped, don't think his resell value would drop too much. We need a long-range option against stubborn packed defences and if KDB gets injured, always good to have an able deputy. Especially if Bernardo's going to play more on the wing.

To be honest mate, it all sounds too good to be true..... :-)
I can see the sense with it, but the only way we fit him in this season until Silva leaves would be to sell Otamendi and replace with a homegrown c.b. Think it depends whether we think we will be banned next summer if we do getting Silva's replacement now makes sense.

Why on earth would he want to go to utd to play with Chris smalling and Phil Jones and have the paper boy making a shit sandwich of everything?
These players utd have signed it is a step up for them as they played at below average clubs.
This kid needs to think about how this is going to stunt his career and playing Thursday nights.

My thoughts exactly. At that price, he's well worth a punt for all the reasons you've outlined.

We've got 37 year old Bravo hovering over a grave hole.... We should flip him in it and fill the hole up. I doubt anyone would notice or care tbh...

Phil isn't ready yet imo. He needs increased game time, but I wouldn't want to be heavily relying on him in the event of an injury or two for the season. Our managed approach with him will reap the rewards in future years.
We still have dave next season,we are well stocked for now and when dave leaves phil will be more than ready

However, we need to start planning for Dave's departure now. We also have a potential ban hanging over us too. Phil's time will come, we need a Silva alternative now. Silva was visibly on the wane last season, still brilliant, but not his brilliant best. We need to bed in his replacement now. My only reservation with Fernandes is his 75% passing accuracy which is pretty shit for us nowadays.... :-)

Excellent sense. Now, sit back and wait to be pummeled by the fanboys!!

At £31m, I'd be reconsidering that decision! As @Sir Joe Aguero said.

i think this is going to get Messy At £31 Million he is batgain in todays market and its a no brainer, but heres the bit i dont get, They can turn down the clause to leave The player gets 4,5 million and then can sell him for upwards of 50 MILLION SO ITS A WIN WIN FOR BRUNO

Bruno’s agent isn’t half hawking his client. All this talk of the Rags - I’m not sure it’s true.... they clearly want a move to the PL. have tried us and the Dippers and got nowhere, Chelsea not an option... probably end up at Leicester or Newcastle (if Ashley sells).
