Another day another gobshite

Lothar Matthäus: “[Leroy] Sane already knows a lot of Bayern players from the national team and has played with them. If I had the choice between a German and a French international player [Ousmane Dembélé], I would take the German at Bayern Munich.”

The real narrative here is that Bayern had a plan to get Sane on the cheap - running his contract down at Schalke - and City spoiled that by paying a market related fee. Bayern’s sense of entitlement regarding any decent German player is such that they still expect to be able to snap their fingers and secure Sane on the cheap. After all if Sane was still in the Bundesliga that’s what would probably happen the other club would hand `Sane over on the terms demanded by Bayern.

I think that's precisely why we're not responding to any of their comments in the media, we're confident he's staying and are just letting Bayern make themselves look like mugs when he eventually signs.

I don't know what the other clubs in Germany are thinking handing over their stars to them

I don’t get it either - I used to work in Koln and FC fans hate Bayern with a passion (not just the football club but the ~Bavarian attitudes too) - as do many fans of other clubs in Germany but whenever any team presents any realistic threat to Bayern - Bayern just dismantle the threat and cherrypick the better players - Leverkusen being a prime example when Bayern halted their progress by taking Ballack - and later Lucio. It’s well known in the Bundesliga that Bayern actively encourage players to run down their contracts - to join them and I guess be guaranteed trophies in such a one dimensional league. In terms of why other clubs go along with this - monopolistic- behaviour I can only assume it reflects Bayern’s unassailable position in German Football. I guess we can relate it to the late 90’s when Ferguson was at the peak of his powers and only had to snap his fingers to get players of other clubs to demand a move.

I realy hope Leroy can resist them, they have thrown everything at him for months now

We should keep Leroy.

His pace with Pep's guidance would elevate him to potentially one of the best players in the world as a winger.

At Bayern he would develop less IMO and be a bigger fish in a smaller pond.

Even on the bench he can be a game changer.
