Trump is the favourite to be the next President (evens), but presumably that’s because they don’t know who the Democrat candidate will be yet. Not many incumbents lose though.

14 out of 44, though some never even made it through their respective national conventions, and 6 of course died in office...

They can’t; they’re afraid of alienating their base and getting primaried. Those that couldn’t hack him just quit (Flake, Ryan, e.g.). So there’s really no one in the GOP left to stand up to him. If his popularity drops and he gets caught in something that creates a risk to his re-electability, they’ll desert him in a panic right before he goes over the event horizon (as they did Nixon in the last week of his presidency). Too little too late then morally of course and it won’t happen anyhow.

My radical thesis: This is all the last act of a desperate party. The GOP knows demography in age, gender and ethnicity has them on borrowed time. The US will be minority white by 2050 if not sooner. Latinos will outnumber whites in Texas in 2022. The Boomers will start to die, to be replaced by a larger, younger, more liberal Millennial generation. Women have far more economic power than they did. The USA is a technology and service-oriented economy. Social security runs out of the ability to pay out full benefits in 2033. All of these trends hurt traditional GOP platforms. Obviously the long term trend is social norms is moving toward a more traditionally liberal platform (why gay marriage was such a litmus test issue, replacing abortion). The GOP I s so fucked, needing to placate a dying electorate to get elected which requires more and more aggressively adopting a “conservative”, “hard right” platform.

If the country holds together, in 20-30 years Republicans as a force will be gone, and will be replaced by a moderate Democrat and more liberal social Democratic options if the two party system lasts. This is why the hard left needs to bide it’s time now and stick under the chafing yoke of older moderates — it’s too early to fragment away from them; Republicans have too much power still. Math says they won’t a few decades from now and then the hard left can be a viable option.
But the GOP will bend and change with the times, as they did before with the assimilation, for example, of southern democrats.

You can get 11/10 on him in Ladbrokes. The bookies are technically pricing him up as 2nd fav in a two horse race at the moment. Obviously when when the Democrat is named his odds could lengthen or shorten.

For the love of good, anyone is better than this.
Despite the racist vote, It’s also the entertainment factor some will vote for aswell. Simple politics for simple people.

Sanders and Biden aside i have never even heard of the rest.

Politics shouldn't be about personality but ability except i cant help but feel that in this instance, its going to hurt the Democrats as they need someone of such a stature to take this twat on.

Bar those 2 you mention the most well known democrats and ones most vocal are the 4 he is butting heads with, unfortunately the 35 years rule is ludicrously outdated but prevent any of them being considered (though only AOC wouldbe anyway)

Unfortunately mate i have so little idea about the US system, i dont even know what the 35 year rule is?

Might spend the day looking into it all.

To stand for president you have to have be US born or lived in the US for 14 years and also be 35 years old or over.
Anyone under 35 cannot be president

Cheers.

A rule that doesnt seem fit for the 21st century.

US citizen and ability should be all that matters.

The problem with all this that is going on in the US is that we have someone who is in awe of him who will more than likely be our next PM. Boris has already proven that he is a racist and with coaching he has been receiving from Bannon now doubt that will be the ticket he will ride on when the next election is announced.

He isnt in awe of him, it is mutually expedient for them both to have eachother thats all. Both Trump and Johnson hit on the fact that demonising foreigners, nurturing nimby's and spreading whopping lies via social media canpaigns works (sadly). Now they use eachother because Johnson needs a leader of another country to do a deal with and therefore proclaim Brexit a success, and Trump wants to be able to demonstrate how he helped break up a European alliance to the advantage of the good old USA. Its all bollocks, but the simpletons of both countries have fallen for it hook line and sinker

According to Marc Short (Chief of Staff to Mike Pence) Trump cant be racist because he hired Elaine Chao (born in Taiwan) as Secretary of State for Transportation.

Coincidentally, Elaine Chao is the wife of Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell.

So, the old "I'm not racist; I have black friends" excuse.
