and the common denominator is.................? Bannon?

Bannon amongst others has been getting his claws into politics there and here the last few years and it's the same mantra on both sides of the pond aimed at the left.
Threat of communism/marxism
Anti-semitism/hatred of israel
Unpatriotic/hates their country
Friends of terrorists.
Freedom of speech being taken away
Threats from immigrants coming in.

At the same time bigoted language and reasoning has been phased into the conversation as though it is acceptable.
Unfortunately since the 2008 crash and peopel lost faith in the system such cliches are easily absorbed into mainstream and are going unchalleged.

I think trump may have pushed it too far this time, but it will be down to if any republicans have the balls to stand up to him.

Wow so people defend trump here too...
Not really. B ut I can see how it's confusing. Wait, I think one person thought he was doing well as President. I personally think his administration is run of the mill. Some believe he is just awful. They may be right. Some say he isracist and thus all other discussion should seize. I disagree That's how fascism starts. But I guess that is confusing.

I think you’re spouting complete bollocks but disguising it as pseudo intellectual mumbo jumbo. Just my opinion though.

They can’t; they’re afraid of alienating their base and getting primaried. Those that couldn’t hack him just quit (Flake, Ryan, e.g.). So there’s really no one in the GOP left to stand up to him. If his popularity drops and he gets caught in something that creates a risk to his re-electability, they’ll desert him in a panic right before he goes over the event horizon (as they did Nixon in the last week of his presidency). Too little too late then morally of course and it won’t happen anyhow.

My radical thesis: This is all the last act of a desperate party. The GOP knows demography in age, gender and ethnicity has them on borrowed time. The US will be minority white by 2050 if not sooner. Latinos will outnumber whites in Texas in 2022. The Boomers will start to die, to be replaced by a larger, younger, more liberal Millennial generation. Women have far more economic power than they did. The USA is a technology and service-oriented economy. Social security runs out of the ability to pay out full benefits in 2033. All of these trends hurt traditional GOP platforms. Obviously the long term trend is social norms is moving toward a more traditionally liberal platform (why gay marriage was such a litmus test issue, replacing abortion). The GOP I s so fucked, needing to placate a dying electorate to get elected which requires more and more aggressively adopting a “conservative”, “hard right” platform.

If the country holds together, in 20-30 years Republicans as a force will be gone, and will be replaced by a moderate Democrat and more liberal social Democratic options if the two party system lasts. This is why the hard left needs to bide it’s time now and stick under the chafing yoke of older moderates — it’s too early to fragment away from them; Republicans have too much power still. Math says they won’t a few decades from now and then the hard left can be a viable option.

I think he is a racist going by his comments but a part of me believes he is more of a “character” or show man than anything else. He plays the part his people want him to play even if it means making comments that are inflammatory or just plain racist.

The Republicans may not have time on their side but they have put a lot of pieces in place to make sure they hold out for a long while. Stacking local courts with conservative judges, on top of the Supreme Court, gerrymandering to keep districts voting red, and lastly recharging there base with a man like trump who even some women vote for shows they aren’t going out without a very very tough fight. They’re a lot of young conservative and disenfranchised Americans who will gladly pass on this message to their kids so I don’t think it will be as easy as some think it will.

Not even close. He's endorsed a known pedophile in a Senate race, he's bragged about grabbing women by the pussy, he admitted to obstruction of justice in an interview w/ Lester Holt, he said people marching with nazis were "very fine people", he committed campaign violations by paying off porn stars, he shared state secrets w/ Russia while in the Oval Office, he cowered to Putin at a press conference in Finland, he brags about his love letters w/ Kim Jong Un, he has ties to child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, he talks about wanting to bang his daughter, he bragged about going backstage at the Miss Teen USA pageant and ogling the children, he's been accused of rape by more than a dozen women, he's started unnecessary trade wars, he's alienated our NATO allies, he mocked a disabled reporter, he re-Tweets alt-right memes, he appointed a felon as national security adviser, another felon was his campaign chair and another felon was his personal attorney/deputy financial chair of the RNC.

If you think a racist tirade against women of color is going to piss off elected republicans you're nuts. Republicans hate women and they hate people of color.

I'm sorry but that's bullshit. He was fined back in the 70s for discriminating against blacks and again by New Jersey for racist practices in his casinos. He also called for the death penalty to be used against some innocent black people back in the 80s.

He's a racist and his long history of racist actions/comments proves it. The fact that his rallies are attended by racist alt-right groups is just further proof.

Yes — I think you are right. Absolute attempting to codify and “lock in” processes. But that in and of itself ensures that later they cannot expect to compromise on other issues important to them when Democrats are likely to be locked up against them. So it’s pretty short-sighted not to mention selfish. But if you’re on borrowed time, I guess that how you have to play your cards.

I don’t agree with your last sentence but the laundry list of kuntishness is both impressively comprehensive and blood-curdling.

Yeah that is an anti-semetic comment and was from a 2012 tweet about the bombing of gaza and it was Israel not jews she said, at least get the quote right for context reasons.
It's more than context. One is racist, one is political comment about a state and not anti-semitic. Perhaps Israel hypnotized him to think she'd said Jews. (You can argue about other stuff she's said but the original quote is wrong.)

He’s still not given up on the Central Park 5 - he’s was banging on about them ‘confessing’ the other week......
