It was Soriano telling Txiki VVD was too expensive, I heard during my two weeks ITK it was wages as much as fee. Laporte was the alternative so it was always one or the other both was never an option. VVD I is a great player and is getting all the plaudits, but not sure he’s much if any better than Laporte. It did seem a RIDICULOUS fee for a CB, but, along with their keeper, he was what Liverpool was missing, and made the difference to them making a challenge last year. Therefore, in hindsight he met his price tag and £75m proved to be about right for them pay for him. Laporte is an elite ball playing centre half, but he is not nearly as good as VVD in those areas as of now. No argument we should have signed him, ended up paying £60m odd anyway for Laporte so should've paid the world record fee and got it done.
It's all good tho, just hope whoever is next is not named Maguire.
