Harry Maguire

Just fucking sign him City, it's not like we're short of money. We need another top centre back and he's ready made to slot into the squad. No pissing about for the sake of 10 or 20 million, we get more than that just from Sky. Would make it back and more with another title too, shouldn't be resting on our laurels letting shit like utd improve.
I thought it was just the homeless of Manchester who relied on spice.

He's worth what Leicester paid for him which I think was 20-30 million? Obviously the market has gone stupid since then but 80+ million for him is just to insane. The rags are now desperate after the injury to Bailly so they will probably pay it. You have to say although VVD was overpriced he has improved the dippers massively. Whether Maguire can do the same for the rags remains to be seen.
I agree, VVD was bonkers money and it appears LCFC are basing their valuation on his price tag. With hindsight, VVD was worth every penny to Liverpool but a keeper and and CB were the missing pieces to their puzzle. They spent big on those 2 positions and it worked out well. United, however, are all over the place. Signing Maguire won't make them title contenders. He'd be one of many signings they need to complete their puzzle.

still think we are in the mix to be honest, possibly hoping that maguire wants to move to us and force the issue to get the £70m we would pay

Doubt it. The price they want is in the 80m-90m range. There is absolutely no way we are going to even consider that.

agreed mate but they also initially wanted £90m for mahrez and he helped make it happen for less? maybe city want maguire to make it known he only wants to move to us? £70m was out top offer and would still represent a huge profit for leicester and they wouldnt in a sense be selling to a direct rival in the rags?

That was 6 months later right? They have turned down 70m+ bids from united in recent weeks/days. They are not just going accept 10-20m less from us days later.

What about Gary Cahill on a free? As an insurance and alternative to the kids?

I'd rather hang on to Mangala tbh, he offers nothing more than moving the deck chairs around assuming we let Mangala go on a free.

I'd take cahill over mangala to free up a foreign spot, assuming no other centre half was coming in.

I think that we are all forgetting that Maguire has one major flaw in his make which Pep highlighted in the Amazon Prime Series. His recovery is his achilles heel and one which would become our if we signed him. A big part of Pep's game is recovery of the ball you lose the ball you only have a few seconds to win back possession again. I would have serious doubts over whether this is something that could be coached into him and this leads me to the conclusion that Maguire isn't a Pep type of player hence why our interest diminished for him.

You might do but what you are forgetting is that Mangala would have to be paid off to go on a free and Cahill would want a signing on fee. So what is the point is signing someone that isn't good enough and costing you money?
