Matt Ritchie got as many assists as David Silva last season, yet I'm not sure you could say they're on a par as creative outlets.

My point being, assists aren't necessarily the best way to assess a player's attacking ability on their own.
Benny has nearly the same assists and has barely played in 2yrs,i assume we want the RB to be doing the same thing?

I mean I suppose that'd be ideal. Maybe playing for us would improve his numbers?

Then again high assisting fullbacks tend to be brilliant at crossing, and from what little I know about Cancelo he doesn't seem quite the type. I reckon he'll be more like Zinchenko is for us but more direct. That is; a good passer, a good runner, creative minded, good at getting into attacking positions to cross and hopefully a decent crosser to boot. He might be very strong at contributing to attacks in general without playing the final pass.

This deal is really interesting to me for another reason as well. It's the first (or one of) that we've done in some time where we aren't filling a huge hole in the squad, but instead taking advantage of having a mostly complete squad and not much business to do, and using the time/money instead on an opportunistic upgrade. We identified him as being available, an upgrade over Danilo, put out an offer, and if we're able to get it done great, but if not, we're not that bothered. It's the type of thing you can't really do when you need to buy six players in one window and something I think we're going to see more of going forward.

I like the sound of that

So another fucking dud for Pep to sort out !

Klopp is right, we spend fucking millions every bloody window.

Mendy won't be available for a while, Zinch has done really well there as a converted midfielder and shades Angelino (at least for now) but Cancelo is probably better than both.

As a LB? i find that hard to believe.

He has different strengths - I'm bored with this conversation.

I'm sure he does. I wasn't debating if he can or can not play at LB. But i do find it hard to believe that he would be better than Angelino and Zinchenko there, both having had really good seasons in that position.

You being bored with a response to your claim is hardly my fault.

I 100% trust the club, and if they want Cancelo then he’s probably a great player, but the stats are not good

I'll take your word for it because I have no idea, never having seen him play.

I seriously doubt that we would be persuing him if Pep and co didn't think he would be a good signing though.

As someone who watches Serie A and La Liga as well as the PL, I have seen Cancelo play approx 12 Juventus matches last season of which he started or was subbed on during a match.

There is absolutely no doubt that he is especially good positionally and possessionally as a ball carrier and his passing is of a satisfactory standard. What might be a concern - it was by fans of the bianconeri - is his defending, which is not up the Chiellini, Barzagli standard. He is quite pacy as the possession transitions from defence to attack.

I think he will do well for City.

I hope he’s not another Kolarov.

Great at passing and shooting, but shit at defending.

If true, good deal. Walker can be rested but also has genuine competition for his position.

Would arguably be the most complete squad we’ve yet had.
