Today's shooting in America thread

I don’t. The safety of myself and my family are paramount in my mind. You have nothing to fear from me. The weapon doesn’t come out unless it is ready to be used, which I hope is never, so I’m not sure what mistake you are talking about. Do you ever make a driving mistake with that two ton weapon you drive at high speed?

You assume I have any idea who is and is not a gun owner. I would assume most people have no idea I’m a gun owner, as it is not something I talk about.

I assume your inference is that gun ownership has corrupted me. Some people might find that offensive.

You assert an equivalence with which I disagree, and then add psychological addiction to the corruption. You’re on a roll. Are you sure it was Econ and Stats and not and M.D. in Psychiatry?

I’m going to assume we are still talking hypothetically, lest I take offense at your numerous accusations and characterizations.

Th equivalencies are strong with you, Jedi.

I would prefer that no one I know, including my neighbors, know that I have a weapon(s) in the house. The only person outside my immediate family who has ever seen them is a friend of my son who came by with my him unexpectedly while I was cleaning one. I have no desire to advertise my gun ownership. As for weapons knowledge, mine is relatively limited to the guns I own and use. I’m not a gun fanboy. They are a tool about which I want to know as much as I can so that I can maximize my mastery of them.

Given the level of training I have received, and the constant practice at the range in which I engage, I’m 100% confident I could drop anyone within anything resembling a threatening range. That’s not a boastful statement, but fact based on evidence and experience. It’s why I practice. Hell, even KDB has to practice passing, even though he’s the best passer of the ball in the world!

Thats silly, isn’t it? Do you think I would pine or lose sleep? Given your rather absurd hypothetical, I’d just get one with life. In the real world, I’d be out about $450 replacing it!

That’s the same reason I wouldn’t shoot YOU! HAHAHAHAHA!

Ok, enough about me and guns. This is about people who have no federal and/or state training, and operate their weapons illegally. I’m not that guy. I’m a milquetoast, middle class, middle aged, professional who chose to get the training necessary to operate a weapon with professionalism and precision, not a nutcase with a grudge against the world or a specific group.

Take care and be well.

It's definitely not about you. In fact, it's the opposite. I'm asking if a rational gunowner who carries for protection can understand why non-gunowners are afraid of you too, and whether you care. I personally am QUITE sure no innocent has anything to fear from you or your gun, and am not implying your gun is a crutch for you or anything like that.

But it's really critical to recognize that other non gunowners don't have the luxury of taking you at your word. And this is a problem. If rational gunowners cannot understand that non-gunowners are fearful of them as well, and that those irrational gunowners are much more likely to force curtailment of 2A freedoms than non-gunowners, then it's likely that nothing changes.

This is why rational gunowners should be leading the charge against the vile, shocking, cynical and tragic corruption of the NRA's mission by current leadership. It's why politicians who believe in the 2A should be doing the same. It's why I believe they should be in favor of some version of the very aggressive ideas I offered earlier, and a reinstatement of the sunsetted Assault Weapons ban. Rational gun owners should be railing against the expansive reading of 2A. But too many aren't IMO.

So hopefully you see where I am coming from here. Fly safe, mate. Spending a lot of time with your company the rest of the year!

Looks like it might be a bit cloudy tomorrow, look the the Teton Mtns...depending on your flight time

That's a great view to have. Only really saw them from the Jackson side. The sum time I spent in Idaho was in the dive from Salt Lake City to West Yellowstone. Breakfast in Utah, lunch in Idaho, dinner in Montana.

Yet. And isn't that the issue? Most of these mass shootings are carried out by people who were once as you describe yourself.

I have a couple of questions regarding this and some of your other posts.

1) Have you ever had to pull out your gun? And if so did you fire it?
2) And how long have you owned a weapon?

I'd also like to ask

3) If you had the option, to wave a magic wand and make it happen, would you like to see all privately owned guns (legal and illegal) removed from the US?

Oh, I don’t know....there are plenty of places where gun culture is distant noise in the far background, and are beautiful places to live. Then, there are others where I wouldn’t want to live, either....just like in England, and most countries, I’d imagine.
It's written in your constitution, the right to bare arms, or arm bears or something...
I think at the time your constitution was written the founding fathers didn't envisage this;

Kinder eggs are very dangerous after all.

For the views, or for the danger?
It was high summer when I was there, but there was still snow/ice at the top of the Tetons
That snow never leaves, but 1 15 and route 20 get pretty scary

The last part of the journey from Ashton to West is beautiful mind you...if it's not a white out

Got it! Excellent thoughts.

As to spending time with my company, be aware SFO Runway 28L is going to be under construction for September. If you’re traveling during September, book a flight BEFORE 9am!!!

No, other than thousands of times in training.
10 yrs.

So there’s no need for it then is there? You’ve admitted you don’t let people know you have a weapon, so that’s not the reason you’ve not been attacked, and if you’ve not had to use it in 10 years I just don’t see the point of having it unless it’s just because you want one.
