Today's shooting in America thread

Connecticut has very strict gun laws
And from the state capital of Connecticut, Hartford, you are in the states of Massachusetts or New York in under an hour - 1 hour 15 mins and you can be in Vermont / New Hampshire.
Certain states having “stricter gun laws” aren’t worth the paper they are written on

When Pope John Paul 11 was shot & wounded back in the early 80's, I remember him praising an angel, sent by god, to deflect the bullet and save his life.
Always struck me as odd that, said angel, let the bullet hit at all!
It would have been a lot more impressive if the bullet had just stopped in mid-air, hovering next to him so he could pick it up. Would probably have converted a lot of people, or at least got him a few shows at Caesar's Palace.

Maybe his god wasn't as omniscient as he thought.

This thread is a good reminder that however bad we think things are in the UK and Australia, the USA is infinitely worse. Since our worst ever school shooting at Dunblane in 1996 and one in Australia at around the same time which both caused gun laws to be tightened up hugely, there have been over 50 school shootings in the US with more than 200 children killed. And this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to overall mass killings. Apart from thoughts, prayers and hand wringing the Americans have done next to fuck all to address this and in some cases have actively made it easier for people to purchase whatever weapons and ammo they might want.
Absolute madness.
