Var debate 2019/20

This is why I think the answer is to allow a “margin for error” - pretty sure they could work out approximately how far a player moves on average between frames, then for example give a 3 inches allowance on the VAR decision for benefit of doubt to attacker. They then move the line on the freeze frame by that distance when reviewing.

Job done.
Yep, very few players will run 100m in under 10s at full pelt, so there’s the standard speed

whether it is mm or the thickness of the lines, where the elbow starts etc etc, it's the new thing to debate but.... It WILL stop this sort of thing in future

They’d just photoshop Milner into a West Ham top and hope no one noticed

If the Dippers, rags and our other rivals get the same treatment as Raz did yesterday then it'll be fine.

They won't though, and as Friday and yesterday the games will still be manipulated to make it easier for them and harder for us.

Summed up by MOTD deliberately choosing to show a couple of genuine Rodri challenges to win the ball and label it tactical fouling.

that shouldnt even have to go to VAR,maybe if we educated the refs and linesmen we would not need VAR at all

Hahahahaha I wouldn’t hold my breath with it being them cnuts involved...

I’m sort of hoping for a couple of incidents similar to ours in the rag v Chelsea game just to see if it’s a level playing field with VAR,you just feel that slightly bit suspicious with neither the scousers or rags having tv screens to show the fans and watching public what’s going on hmmmm..

well that all depends who's on the VAR panel, can you honestly say and hold your hands up that 3 guys locked in a room are completely free of any influence and if you can prove it, i cant and wouldnt trust that 3rd party to make the correct decision, yes we have had bent refs but even a single bent ref can only do so much until it comes to light what he's up to, nothing has been wrong with the single ref system for over 100 years, yes we get bad decisions but the common phrase 'it evens itself out' and it did, all they have done is take a single human decision out and given it to 3 people tucked away in a room, whoever is responsible for introducing this mess needs educating..just my take
Of course it did not even itself out. That is the biggest bullshit cliche going.

Liverpool scored 11 offside goals last season and conceded 1.

Var isn’t perfect but it’s a lot better than the old system if accuracy and fewer errors is one’s target

I've got to say the one allowed to stand looked more offside than the one disallowed both were so tight, I don't think the var review proved anything.

I agree.

The 1st was less offside than the 2nd. A shit lino may have given either off in the past but then everyone would have said afterwards that he should have given Sterling advantage & that should be the setup for v.a.r. now; to try & have more marginal goals allowed, not more disallowed.

little chance I know but it HAS to go. apart from the obvious chance to manufacture a result it just doesn't work.by my reckoning Sterling was off, just but off, for his second goal. For fans its a nightmare, our game has gone. We no longer watch a live game , we watch a television show, football is no longer played on grass, in fact what takes place on the field of play is now irrelevant. A TV producers decides the result of every game. At Norwich yesterday hardly anyone budged when the 3rd goal went in, the players displayed muted cheer. that's not football ffs. I have already decided to duck Bournemouth but will now spurn all away games unless the town itself is worth the visit. too much money, you can watch tv at home. in truth that's exactly what sky want so they will push VAR all day long.

Staggering that those two grounds don't have big screens.

I felt like Dean wasn’t going to give the penalty at first. You know what I think made him give it though? The fact that VAR was there and it’d look pretty stupid if he didn’t give it. He then had no choice but to award the pen. One of the positives at least.

I hate the way it's killing football but at least for this season, I can relax a little bit, if the same kind of offsides go against the favourite teams.

But I will still be concerned as to what will constitute a marginal penalty or in Aguero's case, no penalty.

First off, just fuck off the stupid "any part of the body you can play the ball with" bit, it instantly makes it impossible to judge as where your shoulder ends and "illegal" part of your arm begins is obviously a nonsense. Just make it where your feet are, dead simple, dead obvious. Then you have to give a margin or error because you cannot know exactly when the ball left a players foot. It's mental to be measuring millimetres on one end of the decision, while just arbitrarily picking a moment to freeze it on the other end.

The spirit of the rule is to stop goal hanging, not to bail out defenders who might have just got lucky and accidentally ended up a millimetre ahead of a striker

It doesn't matter who is on the panel if offside is half a yard, that will never go wrong. Without var it goes wrong many times. The world moves on, there was nothing wrong with us walking down the Earth for zillion years but it's much better and easier to use bikes, cars, planes.

I want correct decisions for most of the time possible and var has proved it brings that - more correct decisions than it was when only human were involved. It's not 100% perfect solution, but it's better one and closer to perfect. Maybe or probably, down the line of time, we will have some that will be the perfect one. I'm sorry, I just don't care about people citing tradition or whatever when technology is involved. Technology made my life much better than life of those that were around 500 years ago, technology made football better before var and will make it better after the var. It's unstoppable thing. There will be some moaning at the beginning like this thread mostly is, but in some time, nobody will give a fuck about it and nobody will think what football was without var.

Also, did anyone see the Che Adams foul in the Southampton/Burnley game? Late, knee high and VAR just let it go because apparently the referee saw it. Still as subject to BS as ever

That penalty never gets retaken without VAR and again no one will say it should be because it was a shit pen and the defending team has done its job.
Without VAR we wouldn't have got the penalty, Dean wouldn't have given it, he very nearly didn't even though it looked a clear trip, but he then realised after a significant delay that VAR would review it, and to prevent him looking a fool (cheat) gave it, knowing that if it was wrong VAR would reverse it, and he could book Mahrez for a dive.

No wonder tbf, Norwich played on Friday.

Correct decision according to Pardew etc.

And there lies the problem. Like Poba's vicious assault last season which Redknapp claimed was accidental.
