If it's true then it might not necessarily be a bad thing. We'll be doing a lot more defending than usual and for all Stones brings to the team, I think Nico is a better defender.

Im not sure who he’d get in instead of? Agree that it was strange to buy him back but i would guess to make some brass on selling him on

Well we don’t know if Mendy will ever come back at a good enough level, so it’s good to have the extra player without having to sell a foreign player (he’s homegrown).

Also, PSG wanted to buy him for €25m I think, so it’s a no brainier on the financial side of this too.

Even if he only plays Carabao Cup games and is sold in the summer, it still made sense to do it.

It’s fairly obvious we brought him back to give us the insurance to allow us afford Mendy another (and likely final) year to prove himself. Anybody thinking he’d go straight into the side was always going to be in for a big shock.

I hope so. I didn't watch him at PSV (just a few highlights packages when we signed him again) but from the little I've seen - even his rusty pre-season- I think he could really add something to our left back area! Really adds depth in a bit of a problem position for us!

it's called cover, no guarantee Mendy will be fit, ever.... and if Zinchenko got injured we'd need someone. He'll get games in due course.
