I'm more worried that as our water is EU owned we will wake up to see England's green and pleasant land reduced to a sandy desert on November the 1st if we leave without a deal. Combined with the lack of food and medicine I'm expecting England by Xmas to resemble Ethiopia in the early 80's. Presumably plans for a no deal brexit will have accounted for the fact that due to the Irish border bob geldhof will not ve able to do a charity pop concert to help us?
Geldof is British, why wouldn't he help you?

Dublin rejects Boris Johnson’s letter

"Unfortunately this letter does not set out what the so called 'alternative arrangements' could or would be. Unless and until there are viable alternatives the need for the backstop insurance policy is clear,” said a senior govt figure

I'm just surprised the letter even got there.

I agreed with you but not for the same reasons.

You don’t think we’ll leave generally speaking, if it doesn’t happen this time, I think we won’t either but specifically because the public will now vote against it at every opportunity.

So yes you’ve reached the right conclusion but I’m unsure if you took the right journey to get there.
The reality is that no government in your lifetime will bring forward another referendum if this one is aborted

Probably true. A far better method of obtaining Brexit under your political system would be running with it as a sole objective in a GE and gaining a working majority at parliamentary level for a particular kind of Brexit though. Whether that'll ever happen is another matter.

You’ve missed my point.

Leave parties such as the BP will stand on a manifesto that’s primarily for leaving the EU, at future GE’s.

You’ll be able to vote for them with them promising to leave.

The need to establish in everybody's mind that the backstop is an utter red-line issue of such importance that it alone would justify no-deal.

The PM will seek to establish a narrative that sets out

a) The backstop will fundamentally undermine the sovereignty of the UK and leave us in the position of vassal state

b) Therefore the EU must remove it

v) if not and we fall to no-deal then any resulting hardships are the fault of the EU - leading to a shoring up of support as people find an outlet for their anger.

Now the populace will fall into 3 groups

1. Like me - people that firmly believe that to be true anyway

2. Many Remainers who think that is pure hogwash and

3. Millions of others that are not in either of those camps and are susceptible to be swayed to support 'fortress Britain'.

The first 2 groups will be of limited interest to the PM - they cannot be swayed - it is all aimed at the 3rd group who are sufficient in number as to be able to swing many a marginal seat in a future election

The EU and Dublin are not going to remove the backstop unless and until we provide a clear and workable alternative. We can’t do so hence we are stuck with the backstop. People can blame who they want. It ain’t changing shit.

Times running an exclusive...

‘Boris Johnson's £100m no-deal public information campaign risks shortages of food, medicine and fuel *before* Britain has left EU, officials have warned. Times told officials said advertising blitz could encourage people to stockpile key goods.

In paper submitted to ministers earlier this month, officials warned advertising blitz could cause 'extreme spikes' in purchases of key goods before Oct 31. They also warned banks could take a 'more cautious’ approach to lending & increase interest rates as Brexit day approaches’

Project fear continuing its good work
