My point, which I am pretty sure you know, is that even in the most extreme and justified circumstances people can be othered
I have absolutely no idea what point you were trying to make, if you were even making one.

Probably because at the current moment in time they don't exist. Something you should have explored in more detail before the referendum.
There was never a time when the EU would agree to let us out, it's not in their interest. Their 'deal' is and has always been just a crash out after a two year delay for their own better preparation and economic realignment.

Wish I was watching it from New Zealand but failed to persuade the family we should emigrate a few years ago. Out of interest how is Brexit and British politics viewed out there.

Don’t think they really care. Our daughter lives there and rarely mentions it. When we go over there it appears that they have enough of their own news. Don’t think they are champing at the bit to export more as they replaced UK as a main exporter years ago and have diversified from the sheep. Still have a lot of sheep mind but they export more to Asia.

The backstop doesn't allow for us to leave the single market or customs union as a complete nation. Hence the current deal is not what the country mandated the government to agree. If no genuine Brexit can be negotiated and No Deal is the only other option we are far better off staying inside on current terms for now and finding another non-Article 50 route out later.

Well we leave the Single Market with the backstop but retain Customs Union. I genuinely think we need to either put Customs checks in the Irish Sea and Britain be separate from NI for customs, with NI having a dual agreement as being part of UK and the Customs Union, until we have a way around it or your suggestion there.

No deal is utterly pointless as well as totally damaging. When we go to negotiate with the EU, the same terms will be there.

No Deal will be prevented by those who are intimidated by Selmayer's threat that Northern Ireland is the price of Brexit.

The EU cannot stop a country from leaving. What they are doing is protecting and prioritising their own interests and those of the E27 above those of the UK. Brexit is not a domestic issue. We are attempting to disengage from international treaties that involve 27 other countries all of whom have their own agendas and domestic politics to consider. At no point was this going to be easy and was always going to involve trade offs, especially negative ones.

Ah, how I’ve missed this thread...

I don’t care why I just care that it is.

I don’t need to announce to the forum if I’m leave or remain, that’s evident but I’m willing to support leaving if it’s with a deal and access to trade with Europe.

We must protect our services sector, as a matter of absolute principle.

Previously I couldn't have contemplated no deal, but now I know how much it pisses you and @Vic off I'm well up for it.

We might have been better served protecting our manufacturing sector while we were in as a matter of absolute principle.

They are exploiting the Irish Republic's constitutional commitments and ambitions to keep the UK within the EU trading area for an indefinite period while not a party to its control. Additionally, for the duration of the two-year transition stage + an indefinite backstop period, the entire UK remains subject to its existing EU trading arrangements and is not able to conclude new trade deals. This is not the case for the EU who can continue to conclude new deals throughout the transition period and beyond.
