The EU is an economic superpower. As are the USA and China irrespective of whether they are in recession or not.

The EU is designed to facilitate trade without barriers across 30 countries. How well those countries do or take advantage of being part of the bloc is entirely down to them. Removing ourselves from it removes our ability to trade freely and without hinderance. How this works to our advantage has yet to be explained.

I'd say that the EU is teetering at the brink of collapse.. We're not the only nation contemplating departure

I'd say they have good reasons to re-open negotiations with us to promote a Brexit which suits them too

Parliament has consistently voted against everything and not just no deal. It hasn't been functional in any shape or form on Brexit beyond instigating it.

Parliament knew a no deal Brexit was the end state in all circumstances. We have had votes to decide on alternatives, each came up with no overall majority for any option.

The suspension in itself isn't relevant and whether Parliament sits or not is not relevant.

You can vote against no deal forever and sit and debate it for centuries but MP's and an elected Parliament have already voted for no deal, it IS law!

Johnson hasn't made no deal policy, Parliament made no deal policy 2 years ago. If people didn't like this policy then why did you elect a Tory/Labour MP to vote for it??

I accept that some individual posters are outraged for reasons of genuine concern for the operation of democracy - for others though it is just more 'cover and code' for their only real aim which is to see Brexit stopped and to therefore rail against anything that can improve the chances of it happening

The eu is a political bloc of different countries - Cyprus? Given your definitions then I visited cyprus it did not feel like an economic superpower to be honest.

Or are you now at the stage where you see the EU as a nation in itself like China and the USA.

The EU along with USA and China are one of the three economic blocs that get to set terms and impose their regulatory standards on the rest of the world. The EU is better at this than the US because it has a more consistent strategy. The EU is the richest free trade bloc on the planet and as a member of that bloc we enjoy the benefits that brings. I can live with not being a political member like Norway but I am still waiting for an explanation as to why exiting this bloc is a benefit economically.

And I had the pleasure once of visiting downtown Detroit and trust me that didn’t feel like economic superpower either.

He is advocating closing down streets and bridges and his supporters are calling for public disobedience.

Show me what he has said he wants specifically ina deal he will back. You know from the meeting they had the other day. What precisely is the deal he and his cronies will support. Nothing, not a dickie.

It’s easy to shout I don’t want this and I don’t want that. It’s a lot harder to say look this is what we want and if that comes we will support.

When I wrote that I did think I had left myself open to comparisons with shit parts of China and the us. On reflection I would much prefer to live in Cyprus :)

Putting aside you *completely* ignoring his question, your reply would seem to imply you have no clue what life is like in some of the southern US states, let alone what it's like in rural China.

If you did, or if you had thought about it for 1 second, perhaps you would not be citing Cyprus as some kind of backwater or failure.

I was talking about the fact that economies in the eu and staying in the eu are in recession or on the brink of recession including the biggest countries.

I thought it was an economic super power. The way you talk on here being in the eu would almost be an economic shield from recessions.

Surely we should be already in recession given all the bollox we have had over the last 3 years . We are no worse no better than Germany and France, just with a lot more jobs for our people.

....and an 80% downturn in inward investment.

I spent a day stuck in parisian traffic three weeks ago, and there are 'Frexit' posters up everywhere. I'm not saying it's a majority view, but their is certainly a groundswell similar to ukip here 5-10 years ago, and it's not just the far right Le Pen lot either.
