I thought we were talking in the context of a deal and what Boris’s proposals were? I believe he’s off to Dublin next week to discuss with our Irish friends. Yet he’s being accused of not wanting a deal.

He might well want a deal but you said the EU were lying about progress. Him saying he wants a deal isn't progress without a realistic alternative to the backstop.

I'm not sure that counts as progress. Maybe the EU negotiators are close enough to proceedings to gauge if there is any substance to Johnson's proposals or whether they are bluster and wishful thinking
And maybe they wanted to provide an excuse for their friends in the Tory party to vote against their own government.

I don't think me and you are going to agree on this. I think though that Boris is doing enough to alienate his own party without any help from Europe.

The fact remains that the talk of no progress leaked from the EU side, coincidental timing no doubt, was used by Tory rebels to justify their actions. You might believe the EU are whiter than white and incapable of such duplicity, but I can smell a rat.

I agree with all this, except....

Fascism is indeed dangerous, but we didn't fight the 2nd World War to defeat fascism, that was not the reason we fought it and if it had been, then we lost.

Once that conflict ended we were happy for Franco to rule Spain for another 30 years and we propped up fascists all over the shop during the cold war.

Noble aspirations are always pinned to wars, war for civilisation, war against Imperial German militarism, war against fascism, they're never the reason these wars start and they're never the reason they're fought.

To be fair pal, I didn't say it was the reason why the war was fought, it was my grandparents view that they were fighting against it and I have no doubt that helped them through the struggles.

It’s actually worse than that, the EU have lied about the progress of talks in order to give the likes of Hammond and Stewart the justification to undermine their own country’s negotiating position.
Yep, they have

Widely, publicly, loudly and frequently - All UK citizens should be appalled TBH

Personally I couldn’t give a shit. Whether it’s Remainers lobbying or working with EU countries or Leavers doing the exact same thing. Neither is illegal or especially noteworthy. All politicians network be it home or abroad. The only concerning aspect is idiots calling this behaviour collaboration or treasonous. It’s getting to the point where we will just end up shooting each other and save the EU the fucking bother.
I said: "People that are open minded - i.e. not dyed in the wool Leave of Remain - might just wonder...…."

Of course you do not give a shit that is no surprise to me and I am not sure why you have bothered to reply

Its really not difficult - I posted a workable solution last week

If I can then I am sure that the UK and EU can readily do so. Just needs the EU to stop weaponising the issue and both parties act in good faith during an agreed transition period. Currently there is, seemingly, little/no good faith.

It does seem incredible they haven't taken your advice. This could have all been so easily sorted.

You should keep up - that it can be quite easily sorted has been (probably unintentionally) suggested by Varadkar - probably nailed on if the No-Deal option is/was available

I will not take personal credit, I doubt that they are glued to BM, - but it seems the possible solution reflects pretty much exactly what I posted

Well after 3 years I'm suddenly very optimistic that the end is in sight. Just off to the cricket thread now to see if there is much optimism there.

And what end would that be - I can only see more division and posturing ahead. I hope we remain but need to get the electorate to confirm that, not stay through party politics.

I am listening to the cricket whilst on a train - sadly I think that the optimism has just come to a close

I must have missed that one. Can you point me at it please, I couldn’t find it when I searched.
