The Labour Party

Well done for picking the easiest part of the post you can get out of by the way, you should be a politician;-)
I just don't agree with you mate. Seems no point in going over and over the same ground again and again now does there.

yep its when you think about what he just said the issues start.

The 4 day week actually works in certain jobs. Productivity has been known to increase and employee engagement risen.

It’s going to be tough in organisations like the NHS but as McDonnell said, they’re giving themselves a decade to enact the policy so they can get it right.

Certain jobs. Not all jobs. Not even most jobs. Manufacturing/retail doesn't improve productivity when the employee isn't there. Stupid policy.
It's a standard labour policy. Nice to have, totally aspirational, not at all realistic.

Manufacturing is going to go through the most rapid transformation to AI in the near future, there won’t be people doing manufacturing jobs very soon and retail could likely go the same way.

A 4 day week doesn’t mean 3 days no one is there. I would be happy for the working time directive to be brought down from 48 hours gradually. I think people should have the option to restrict the number of hours/days they work.

watching some of the the labour conference and they look like they are in a mess. i think they are struggling to come to terms with their identity. you've got two side - the more traditional, working class predominantly leave voting areas/mps and then the more sort of london based, higher educated remain lot. i can't see how those two sides are going to come together. I also struggle to see how labour can ever win an election without their heartlands.

so people like thornberry are actually making it more difficult for them. as she and others will 100% push leave voters away and in turn lose votes.

So what would you suggest, they back leave because you want it?

The majority of Labour voters and members, despite the constant rhetoric around their large leave base, are remain.

They’ve taken a position that satisfies them, it’s a mature approach and one that allows moderate leavers, who don’t want the sick fetish of no deal, to vote for them.

They’ve taken the call that I believe to be correct: most Labour leave voters don’t have Brexit as their number one issue. It’s more Important to working and upper class Tory Leavers and middle class Labour remainers.

Newsnight poor tonight, quoting annonymous sources reported by sun journalists and using the term asset stripping in a sensationalist way.

Fuck sake the tories have stripped every asset the country has had and flogged them off.

Much prefer that North Korean style news reporting where the glorious leader and his policies are cheered by the masses and opposition is only seen as they face the anti aircraft gun.

Do you?

I prefer professional unbiased journalism from the national broadcaster.

No you want biased reporting unless it suits.

That’s basically what your moan was.

Are you watching newsnight?

Watson was refered to as a failed assasination atempt.
Quoting unsubstanciated comments from a sun journalist know for bullshitting.
Matlis claiming austerity has been abandoned and mentions the magic money tree of labour.
Also saying Corbyn doesn't wan tto be PM.
Refering to asset stripping a ridiculous number of times.
Using that dick Alan Johnson as a barometer of labour values and opinion.

All of that was bollocks, the questioning of starmer on the new policy was fine as was the discussion with kinnock and the others.

But was still on the whole a load of shite.

Hahahaha. Love it.

I think Labour’s chances at the election rely on Corbyn being able to repeat his 2017 campaign. That might not be enough but it’s a pre requisite. They need him to galvanise the youth vote again, hold a series of well attended rallies around the country.

But he’s going to spend the campaign sitting on the fence about the main issue that they’re bothered about. He’s going to be evasive about the re-negotiations, evasive about whether he’ll lead a leave campaign. He’s going to have to reconcile contradictory statements from senior Labour MPs. It’s going to be a damp squib of a campaign.

He’ll end up looking like Theresa May.

Given all the pledges made are going to cost money and the uncertainty over brexit just means they are just a wishlist of things to do if we are still in the Eu and can afford them

Same as johnsons recent pledges then, but with a gaurentee from him we will be in WTO conditions and so economically worse off becaise of a no deal.

Seems a no brainer,
If you want brexit and some security of trade and border issues vote labour and get the option to rubber stamp that deal
If you want a chance to say we have changed our minds and let's call the whole thing off then you have the chance.

If you are deciding not to vote labour because you don't like corbyns face, then you are voting for the wrong reasons imho.

In engineering there used to be a saying “measure twice, cut once” it’s better to work smart than rush a job, would less hours lead to shoddy workmanship? There’s still plenty of non automated engineering going on in the work shops of the UK. The group I do deliveries for have a standard 35 hour week with all other hours worked classed as paid overtime. It’s not far off the working week Labour are proposing.

It has charitable status because they offer scholarships and bursaries to talented but no so well off youngsters.

If they remove the charitable status and add vat to the fees then all it will do will make private schools even more elitist. Those who pay to send their kids to the day schools around gtr Manchester are middle class hard workers and they will not be able to afford it or aspire to do it.

Meanwhile the exceptionally wealthy who send their kids to rugby, eton or westminister will not give two figs and will continue to afford to send their kids to that school.

You will end up with a even smaller group of over privileged children and the divide will be even bigger.
An old mate of mine was a Manager at B & Q, he had a comfortable life style but worked really hard. When his kids were approaching school age he decided to send them to a private school. The German cars were sold, the holidays downgraded and all his bonus payments went on school fees to give his kids the education he wanted for them. I would say he’s representative of a large number of adults who send their kids to private school, he’s no billy big balls, not wealthy and made sacrifices, he also freed up two school places for state educated kids which along with the others indirectly subsidises the Education budget.
